Description I went to my kitchen, and I grabbed a couple eggs and anything else useful. After what had happened yesterday, I made absolutely sure I would get my revenge. Yesterday, My friend Grant and I had got involved in a fight with Leah.

Some backstory – my name is Jason, and I’ve known my best friend Grant for about ten years. We probably weren’t going to separate any time soon; conflict was rare with us. Life was just like normal, causing trouble and having fun with Grant. As for the fight with Leah, we were all troublemakers, so there’s no real need to know who started it. Grant and I had barely known Leah, but we already knew this hate for one another wasn’t going to go anywhere, especially since Leah was also a “rebellious” teenager like we were. She was a valley girl, and she had lived on a ranch with her father. We wanted to pull a prank, and we had to look around for someone.

The next day at school we asked around, but we made sure to only ask people who were just like us, but were still trustworthy. We thought no one could help us, until someone overheard our talk: Justin. Justin was a tall guy, not too popular, and it was no surprise he was willing to prank someone. “Weren’t you friends with Ashley once?” Grant asked as Justin accepted to help us. “I was, about a year ago, but it all fell apart.” Justin responded. “What happened?” Grant asked yet again. “It’s complicated, we had problems with each other, and she ended up being such an ass.” Justin answered. “Heh, that’s what our prank involves.” I responded. “What do you mean?” Justin asked, sounding interested. “We’re going to egg Leah's ranch.” I answered. “Isn’t that ranch her father’s?” Justin asked a little worried about the consequences. “Yeah, but let’s be honest, she’ll get in trouble for it.” Grant said with a big grin. “True.” Justin said. “Well, we need some eggs, and that’s it, were doing it on Thursday; get ready! You know where the ranch is by the way, right?” “Yes.” Justin responded. That was that. It was time to get our revenge. Even if she didn’t start it. “Uh… what does this have to do with asses though?” Justin stopped and asked with a less serious tone. “Ya know, a ranch, has donkey’s and such…” I responded. “Right…” Justin said with a awkward but comedic tone. Well that was awkward.

The next day, I noticed at lunch that Leah was talking with somebody, and that somebody looked like Justin. I didn’t think much of it, it probably wasn’t Justin. Leah, being herself, passed by me with a displeased look on her face after finishing her conversation. I later that day went to Justin in science. “I wasn’t talking with Leah, I left her a year ago for a reason.” “Well I trust you.” I responded, hoping he wouldn’t get upset about me asking if he was with Leah. I opened my notebook, and Leah seemed pleased about something, staring at me with her eyes locked and a strong smile. Earlier I overheard her talking with her father about something; she was on the phone with him before school started. She was happier than usual, and I was guessing her father gave her some good news about something. Honestly I kind of wanted to ruin that something.

I continued on my day, and something kept bothering me. Maybe it was Leah, or just my impatience about waiting on the prank. As I was getting lost in thought, I almost walked past my truck. I stopped, and entered it before I did anything else awkward. I turned on the radio, and headed to the store. I had five dollars on me. They probably could have been used on something useful, but I just bought more eggs for the prank just in case. We definitely had enough, but I’m the kind of person who overstocks. On the way home I realized we didn’t have a plan, other than just covering the whole place in eggs. I guess that would work. We didn’t want to hurt the animals, however her house and other buildings without animals would probably be more than enough for a little bit of fun. As I wrapped up thinking about the prank, I pulled over in my driveway., I called Grant to make sure he remembered when to start. Of course he did. I just was the kind of person to make absolutely sure. I didn’t have contact with Justin, and he was a bit of a last second choice. I just realized that we kind of chose him without much thought. But whatever, he was an honest guy, regardless of if he was a troublemaker like us. Although we were going to start the prank after school tomorrow, I still decided that tomorrow I would go over the plan with Justin at school. All he really knew was that he needed eggs.

“So you have your eggs, right?” I asked. “Yes.” Justin responded. It was lunch time, and we were talking with Justin as I wanted to. I got the feeling he was bugged about me making sure of everything. I should probably be glad he was even helping with it. Justin walked outside, and yet again, I noticed Leah was talking to that same person. Déjà vu. It did look like Justin as I mentioned earlier, but it was probably just a friend of Leah's. “Hey Grant, doesn’t that look like Justin?” I asked as he walked up near me to look out the window. “Yeah.” He responded. “I personally don’t think it is though. Justin’s a genuine guy.” The bell rung after a few seconds. “C’mon! Time for next class guys!” I looked out the window as I was zoned out for a few seconds before grabbing my belongings. I was surprised to turn the corner and be stopped by Leah. “So Jason… I want to ask you something…” “Ugh, what is it?” I asked annoyed. She surprised me even more as she asked something I did not expect. “Can we let it go? It was just a few days ago. Please?” She didn’t seem very sincere. “Heh, good one. No.” I responded. She turned around and walked on, going to her next class and said with a suspicious smile “Alright. You denied it. Just don’t make an ass out of yourself.” She giggled and walked on. “Eh, whatever.” I said. I walked on shortly after. I thought about what Leah just asked me. There’s no way she was being honest, she made it obvious. That was kind of strange since anyone could tell she was being dishonest, and it makes me wonder why she asked in the first place if she was intentionally making it obvious. She was definitely up to something, but it didn’t bother me too much. The bell rung. “Ah, I’m late.” I thought to myself, continuing towards my next class slowly. I really didn’t care about being late either.

As our final class ended, I ran outside, looking for Grant. I looked back in the school for one second, he didn’t appear. I got on my phone and waited. I was a little too focused and Justin walked up behind me, his presence being unmistakable. “Well, you said a bit after school, right?” he asked. “Yup!” I responded. “Just waiting for Grant. He has to hurry up, we want to get there before Leah does.” “Won’t she get there first no matter what?” Justin asked. “I believe she hangs out with friends after school.” I responded. “Oh.” Another silhouette appeared at the door. “Hey guys!” “Hey Grant. Alright. This is the day and the time. We all ready?” They both gave me a “Yeah.” We got in my cheap, old, yet spacious truck, and put the eggs in a place where they would stay intact. I couldn’t help but think about Justin. He was enthusiastic as always, but it is pretty strange that he agreed to do this with us. I’m not complaining though. We needed that third person.

We pulled up to Leah's house, hiding around it to make sure there was no sound coming from inside. “Alright, Justin, can you go to the side and start there? We’ll work our way around.” Grant asked, sounding rather serious. “Gotcha.” He walked off to the side as we asked. So far everything was going to plan. However, as soon as we heard a door, me and Grant darted behind some bushes. We carefully inspected the house. We definitely heard a door, but from where? The house still seemed empty. “Was it the car?” I asked. “No…” Grant responded. “It seems clear though. Let’s go check on Justin… quietly.” We walked around the other side, taking the long route. Luckily this place had plenty of bushes to hide in. “Uh… Grant, he’s not here!” I whispered. “Where could he be?” Grant responded. “I don’t know…” We both called out “Justin” at a moderate tone in case anyone really was in the house. “He’s not here!” I said. “Dammit! There’s only so many places he could have went!” Grant said, thinking out loud. “Well you know what?” I said with a slightly more upbeat tone. “It’s now or never, I guess we have to do it without him, but we can’t cancel now.” “You’re right” Grant said, still a little annoyed. As we sneaked back around to where we wanted to start, a thought came across my head. What if Justin went inside? We heard a door a second ago, and we couldn’t find where it came from. But why would Justin go inside? I didn’t tell Grant my thoughts as it seemed unlikely. Justin’s disappearance was strange, but we were caught up in the moment, and we worried about getting this prank done. I got in front of the pen that a horse was living in, and pulled some eggs from our basket. Being careful so the horse wouldn’t start neighing, we kept our tosses quiet and made sure not to hit near the horse. Luckily it worked, the horse sat down and kept eating it’s hay, undisturbed by our presence.

As I walked carefully to a small structure, I tripped, and Grant, staying close behind, tripped too. “Woah dude! Watch it!” “Uh.. ok” I replied, unsure of how I could have tripped. As I was inside my mind for longer than I should have been, I heard Grant say “What the hell?” Naturally, I said “What’s wrong?” “Look what we tripped on!” he responded. I moved my head down in the direction of my feet, noticing a bowl that belonged to an animal. That wasn’t weird at all, but what was weird is that it had something in it, it appeared to be water, but as Grant got curious and touched it, he recoiled backwards. “Ack, what is this? There’s no way it’s water.” “Huh?” I said, reaching down to touch it. He was right. When we touched it, it appeared to dissolve into our skin. “Weird… No time to waste though!” “Right!” Grant responded. I regained focus, and walked around to the other side of the barn, which had a donkey. “AAH!” A scream came from Grant as he looked at me from across the barn. “What? What is it?” I asked. “Dude, look at your face!” He replied. I grabbed my face, and looked at what I could. Huh? I don’t remember my face stretching out this far! “What the hell? What is this? Hey! It’s happening to you too!” Grant screamed again as he checked his own face. “What’s happening to us?” Grant asked as he reached down to grab his bag, only to be interrupted by another shocking sight. “Wha? M-my hand! Look at it!” Grant screamed. “Woah! What is that?!” I replied, genuinely shocked for once in my life. “I d-don’t k-know!” Of course I looked down at my own hands, and my fingers were fusing together just like Grant's. “Is this even possible!?” I asked “What’s happening to us?” Grant wanted to open his mouth and respond “I don’t know”, but he was interrupted yet again, this time by a loud rip. “What was that? It came from you!” I looked behind me and saw a tail. A tail! “I-is this..? A tail? This can’t be real. Someone help us!” I cried. “Jason!” Grant cried out loud. “I think we’re becoming animals!” “But how?” I responded. “That’s not even possible!”

Grant thought in his mind for one second, but we heard the sound of a door. I was relieved, as we had just called for help, but we were still so incredibly nervous. As the footsteps got closer, fur spread up our new snouts, and across our arms to our hands. My shoes were almost busting open as the figure we could hear turned the corner. “Leah!! Help us!” I cried out. “Heh, you think I’m gonna help? Guess who set this up?” “…You!” I got on my two feet while I still could. As a half-donkey, wearing a torn shirt and with my shoes falling off, I tried to run into her in anger, but she easily pushed me over, and I tumbled on Grant. Now we were both half-donkeys, laying on the floor, shocked, transforming, and embarrassed. My shoes tore open, revealing my toes, which were fused together. They were quickly covered by a large black nail. Aware of what came next, Grant took his shoes off. Leah just stood there and smiled. “Please! I-I didn’t mean t-to try a-and hurt y-you!” I pleaded. Her smile got larger as she said “Be honest with yourself, Jason, you’re only saying that to try to get out of this.” “No!” I pleaded. “How i-is this possible? P-please! Stop, I p-promise I’m not j-j-just saying i-it!” I knew all too well in my own mind she was right; I was just staying it so she would stop turning me into some kind of animal. Grant and I sat side by side as the tails that came from our backs earlier covered themselves in fur. We were still shocked, inspecting our bodies, and screaming our thoughts out loud. My other shoe burst open, revealing a large black hoof. Grant, as he had been smart enough to take his shoes off, started experiencing the same changes. I stared at his bare feet, seeing them fuse and become large black nails, just like mine. We could hear another person coming from the door, but this time we were too focused on ourselves. My brown hair dissipated into my head, perfectly matching my fur. Our clothes ripped apart, and we felt some strange change happen with our bones. As I tried to stand up, I yet again screamed, terrified that I could only walk on all fours. Leah pushed me back down. Grant and I sat there, examining ourselves, covered in torn clothing and sitting in an unusual manner. That person we heard open a door a second ago came around the corner. Leah looked at the figure and stated “Well done, Justin. Just like we planned!” “We looked at him from the floor we were awkwardly sitting on. “Justin! You lied to us! You said you were no longer friends with Leah!” I screamed frustrated. “Whatever. You’re not that honest either Jason, and you know it.” Justin said. Grant spoke up and raised his voice as Justin finished “We will get revenge for this Jason, and we’re not gonna go easy!” Ashley gave Grant a condescending look. “Oh my, it seems there has been a misunderstanding. You see, you’re now my donkeys, on my ranch! There will be no next time. Get comfortable with the barn cause this is your new home.” We screamed in anger. “Oh, it would seem my new livestock isn’t listening. I guess maybe I’ll remove talking too.” We screamed louder, but not for long as our voices disappeared, and became neighing-like sounds.

Leah had walked back into her house, but wasn’t gone for long, bringing her dad with her this time. “Look papa! I got the animals you wanted!” She said with a tone of voice so nice we had never heard it before. “Aw, that’s my girl!” Her father gave her a pat on the back and went inside. Leah stared into space for a few seconds, then turned around, and came up to me, and gave me the same look she gave me in school yesterday. “Hmph, well Jason, I gave you a chance to let it go, and you denied it. I even told you not to make an ass of yourself. But would you look at that. You’re an ass right now!” She left the barn again. What she just said REALLY pissed me off. But there was nothing I could do, and no one could understand me.
