Description
Something different! I want to start working with editorial illustration so I’m making a quick editorial based portfolio which I’ll send out to art directors next month. Trying some new subject matter and going to play with line work more in the next one. This was just a kayaking idea I’ve had thumbed out in my sketchbook for a while, I love kayaking and totally own a big yellow one.Prints available on Etsy: www.etsy.com/listing/162497909…

I loove the colours! Do you plan them in any way, with color theory behind it, or does it come intuitively?

I usually just go with what I feel like, or if I see a photo or image somewhere with a nice scheme I use www.degraeve.com/color-palette… to help pick out what I'll use

Oooh I know that site, I've used it myself before! *chuckle* cool stuff. Reminds me of the photo app "Kuler". Open the app, point the camera somewhere and it gives you the color scheme of what you are looking at.
Thanks!

Do you know a palette generator that gives you more colors? I usually like something with like 15 colors at least.

Hmm this one gives you a bunch of colors if you select analogic or accented analogic: colorschemedesigner.com
If you want a color palette off a certain image then I suggest this site: www.cssdrive.com/imagepalette/…
more colour-y goodness:
www.webexhibits.org/causesofco…
I miss putting colors together...

WOW!! This is definitely one of my top favourited pieces from all of Deviant Art! The colors are gorgeous and patterns absolutely mesmerizing! What medium did you use and how did you do all the intricate details with it?

Very cool deviation... but I don't like the riders of the kayak

No, it's just that you have all this exotic stuff, the green and mysterious water, the tribal kayaks... and you find riding it an overweighted pale man with a cap. They vanish the magic, they aren't in the jungle having an adventure, they are just in an amusement park. (my belief).

Haha, yea but I had to tone it down because a lot of criticism from art directors of magazines is my work has too much of a fantasy feel, so this and the next few things will be a little less my usual.

anyway it's a good work. (Remember that art must be totally free, if not it's only another frustrating job.)

I draw everything out traditionally and finish with color in photoshop
