Description I take this picture to make some comments.
I'm not doing a historical image. But Steampunk, originally part of the Victorian aesthetic of 1800.
I thought a good idea to approach the original essence of steampunk.
Not so the modern image of steampunk, with the developments that have taken today. I do not intend to put a hat and a pair of welder, any design.
I'm gonna catch me a bit more seriously.
I think Herbert's novel, is closer to a historic event.
My image, it will be closer to the idea of the movie by David Lynch.
In my humble opinion, the David Lynch film, it was visionary, as the aesthetic of steampunk, is concerned. I think that certainly has marked a clear reference, the evolution of his type of SCIFI. Sure, it's only my opinion.

This is a test, the costumes by Jessica Atreides.

The costumes, created it, through dynamic simulation of cloth.
I started with my tests on the simulation of fabrics, with the image: "Arabian Night's."
Unfortunately, the computer played a trick on me (one more) and hard disk I'm gone. I lost a lot of information, among which were, my tests, dynamic fabric.
Taking this picture, I spent several days getting to experiment with fabrics. (And I have yet, this is not easy) I think I am more than satisfied with the results.

On the other hand, also I have some initial testing, modeling, with clear references to GAUDI. (Born in mid-1800) and undoubtedly, has many elements, which fit perfectly with the house Atreides.

Finally, I have to say that I face, the picture more complex and elaborate, all I've done to my gallery. I'll take much more, on other occasions, putting the final image, so I hope, meanwhile, will be enjoying the pictures of the process.

Only for my Watchers ...
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Simply use the Cloth modifier, which comes with 3dmax.
I think the result is good, but be careful with the scale on the scene ..

I'll try not to stay, to make the typical image steampunk. Try, creating an image close to the historical database 1800. Steampunk will also, of course, but I need to differentiate a little picture of what I see regularly. Be a process of creation, more longer than usual, but I think, it's worth.
Thanks to you for choosing my work!

First of all I thank you for your words. Whenever you are very kind and I thank you very much. You're right. Fabrics work really hard. Above all, because it is not, of taking a job from another, and give play. I'm doing clothing models from scratch. I've always tried to avoid face to fabrics. but it is time to deal with them ...
Thanks again!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

angelitoon In reply to ledain [2011-01-08 11:26:42 +0000 UTC]

Gracias.
Me llevara tiempo..
gracias por escibir amigo!

Oh yea! This really turned out well. I love how the fabric folds as it reaches the floor. You really did a wonderful job getting the gown to drape so nicely on the character. It so looks like real fabric with the soft folds down the back of the gown as well as the front. Awesome! Love the pieces to the right. All the tiny design very much looks like Gaudi. Really looking forward to seeing what textures you come up with for the models. I think you nailed this one! Excellent work my friend!

angelitoon In reply to Kachinadoll [2011-01-07 23:48:19 +0000 UTC]

Glad you like. It has a lot of work. I know this image is not the typical image that appeals to lovers of traditional scifi. (no exploding spaceships and big robots) but I think that that is precisely what makes it an interesting image.
The dress, just the rendering of basic geometry. Missing, all the jewels, and accessories, too.
I have thought, so many elements to this scene, not if you go to may go in, in the picture!
Thank you!
