As a filly, Twilight seemed to be burdened by nightmares. Doctors assumed it was stress based, the restless nights of studying playing a toll on her. Twilight’s parents ignored this assumption, believing that it was but a phase. Though having their daughter writhe in her sleep, wake up screaming and crying, even startled by something in the midday, it was making even them wonder.

A custom within Canterlot is that upper class and elite ponies are allowed an audience with her Majesty, Queen Celestia. Of course this involves a rigorous background check, going through multiple security checkpoints and paying a hefty amount but once through ponies of Equestria are allowed to speak with the Queen to see if she can lean aid or advice.

When Twilight’s parents spoke to Queen Celestia regarding the nightmares that plague their daughter, the Queen herself spoke to the little filly. She wished to know what accrued within such dreams.

Twilight eventually spoke, meekly behind her mother. She told of a pony of darkness, a towering figure that would loom over Celestia herself. The creature’s eyes pierced through the darkness, transfixed on the filly. Her mane would glisten with stars and constellations. Her teeth would chatter together as a thick, raspy laugh echoed from her pipes. Twilight would run or be too stricken with fear to move but it’d always end the same. The creature would flare its wings, horn illuminated and cry out to the filly as it swooped down to her. The voice rattled in Twilight’s ears. And when Celestia asked the filly what this creature spoke, Twilight cautiously uttered…

“ Traitor… “

Queen Celestia’s face had altered, as if she had fully come to understood the meaning. Twilight’s parents begged the Queen if there was anything she could do. She paused for a moment before offering that Twilight takes the entrance exam to her school. Twilight was much far below the age of acceptance but the Queen was willing to waver this point, Twilight being a special filly.

The thoughts of the dream had soon escaped Twilight’s parent’s minds, the idea of their child being allowed to try the top academy in Equestria at a young age for her brilliance was much more fun to entertain. However the little Twilight was still unsure before being calmed by the Queen. Celestia assured the girl that if she was to pass, she’d be able to keep a very close eye on her and this dream could be sorted one way or another. Twilight accepted this but it was still clear she had much doubt and fear remaining.

The Queen did not see this as a dream, nor a nightmare.

But prophecy.

Twilight got some funky dreams, maybe they’ll disappear if she can pass the entrance exam.
