Description "It's anything but."

Ten years ago, on September 6, 2010, Cartoon Network aired Regular Show. The adventures of two slacker groundskeepers may sound dull at first, but once you witness this show first-hand, you'll realize that anything can happen in this show. In fact, the title of this show is entirely ironic, because it expects you to think that nothing crazy could happen, but it wants to test you by saying that literally the strangest predicament the characters can get into will happen. for example, playing with a simple keyboard can send our heroes to the moon, or how a radio contest to win a car propels our heroes 3,000 years into the future.

I remember when I first heard of this show, I was completely not interested in it. I thought it wasn't going to be something special, and most of my focus was geared towards Adventure Time, which premiered a few months before. However, in 2011, I watched my first ever episode of Regular Show titled "Prank Callers", and from that moment on, I was hooked. I remember throughout my middle school and high school years, I would eagerly go to the TV and anticipate the airing of the newest episode of Regular Show and MAD (fun fact, MAD premiered on the same day as Regular Show. I'm planning on a 10th anniversary drawing for that show, and should have it done by tomorrow). The more I watched Regular Show, the more I got invested with the characters, and story arcs they would have, like the temporary employment of Thomas until it was realized he's actually a Russian spy, and especially Mordecai's struggles to get a girlfriend, from various misunderstandings or unfortunate timing. Suddenly, everything took a sudden turn when Season 8 premiered, where the show decided to have the show be set in outer space. This sudden change in scenery gave me the impression that something grand was going to happen, and lo and behold, the series finale came, where Pops and his brother have a fight that literally resets the events of the show, and the ultimate sacrifice is made where Pops proceeds to kill himself and his brother to save the universe, which results in the gang arriving back to Earth and moving on with their lives, only to be shown that everything was a VHS being watched by Pops in Heaven where he proclaims that it was a "Jolly good show." He was right, this show was such an experience, I'm glad it gave me hope that Cartoon Network had a bright future. I'm also glad JG Quintel is back at it again with his HBO Max original animated series Close Enough, which is basically Regular Show without limits.

Oh boy, the process of me making this image was very, VERY time consuming. Because this is a show that means a lot to me, I wanted to go all out on making it. I knew that the centerpiece of the image was going to be Mordecai and Rigby excited about eating an anniversary cake (I decided to take Mr. Maellard's birthday cake from "Take the Cake"), but I wanted to add in that sense of insanity of the show to the image, and I knew that the other park workers would be perfect for that role. My goal with the other park workers is to choose what I think are some of the strangest predicaments they got themselves into. For Pops, I drew him as Mordecai's disturbing memory of seeing him naked from "Brain Eraser". For Benson, I drew him bottling up his anger from "Think Positive". For Skips, I drew him fighting the stress that nearly took over his body from "Skips' Stress". Lastly, for Muscle Man and Hi-Five Ghost, I drew Muscle Man with his pecks uncontrollably flexing and HFG being mortified from "Bald Spot". If there's one thing that took a very long time to make in this image, it was drawing it on Photoshop. No joke, I literally stayed up until 3:00 AM just to make the outlines and color in most of the characters. In order to give the characters that extra nudge to make them more noticeable, I added a colored aura behind them, so that way, they don't appear to blend in with the background. When it comes to the lightning, I came up with a new techniques of mine where I drew the lightning strikes, duplicated them, and gave the bottom layer a distance blur so that the lightning actually looks bright.

Hope you enjoyed this ambitious image of mine. I'm very proud of the way it came out, as I think it shows just how much I adore this show.
