They may be from different movies, but they want the best for each other.

Tomorrow, on June 30, two new animated films will be released. First, there's Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken, released by DreamWorks Animation, and Nimona, released by Netflix. Both of these films have some pretty interesting histories.

When it comes to Ruby Gillman, this film was announced in very short notice. What I mean is that, when the film was first announced, it was in the middle of March, meaning that the film only had a three-month-long period to entice audiences to see it. To me, three months is too short of a timespan, as most films like to announce their film in at best six months or maybe even a full year ahead of schedule, so that way, there would be plenty of people who would be eager to see it. What also doesn't help is that I've heard from a few friends that the way Universal has been marketing the film is entirely misleading, so there's a chance that the film could be something complexly different than what the trailers make it out to be.

When it comes to Nimona, I think we're all familiar with the story of how this film came to be. It was originally going to be made at Blue Sky Studios, the company famous for creating the Ice Age films. However, around the time the film was nearing completion, it was announced that Disney would be shutting down the Connecticut-based animation studio (since this was around the time Disney bought 20th Century Fox), and that any and all projects that were in development there would be shut down. Despite the fact that it was reported that about 75% of the film was complete, it wouldn't be finished in time by the day the company would close its doors. As a result, a group of people made it their mission to have another animation studio revive the dead project, and their wish was granted when Annapurna Pictures announced that they picked up the film and decided to finish it, while Netflix would distribute it. While some say that Spies in Disguise is the official last film made by Blue Sky, some say that title belongs to Nimona more.

I'm looking forward to seeing both of these films. I eager to see Ruby Gillman because it looks like it'll be cute with its coming-of-age story and its characters, and Nimona looks like it'll be a blast with its dose of action and humor. However, given the reaction towards these films, I'm beginning to worry that Nimona will overshadow Ruby Gillman because of how much hype that film built up, only fueled by the fact that there are people who are dead-set on making that film stand out above all else. I may be looking forward to the film as well, but I think that Ruby Gillman should at least get a chance to shine, because the treatment Universal has been giving the film has been seen as a little shady. I basically made this artwork to show that I support both of these films equally, and that I'm not harboring any sense of favoritism for one over the other.

Nothing special to say about making this, so I hope you like this artwork, and here's to seeing these two films. Since I tend to be a night owl, I might watch this film the moment my clock strikes midnight, since that's when the film will most likely be available to view on Netflix.
