Hey I'm grump!I'm not-so-grump!
And we're the Game Grumps!
Ten years ago on this day, the YouTube channel and the series Game Grumps was founded. When the show was created, it was hosted by two people: Arin Hanson (AKA Egoraptor) and Jon Jafari (AKA JonTron), and they worked together until 2013, when Jon decided to leave the show so he could put more focus on his own YouTube channel. To fill in Jon's space, a new not-so-grump was introduced, and his name was Dan Avidan (AKA Danny Sexbang). Ever since then, Dan has been by Arin's side playing video games, doing tabletop activities, among other things with the other crew members of Game Grumps.
When it comes to my experiences, I can definitely say that I'm a fan of Arin and Dan's antics, but not to the point of being a die-hard. If I'm going to be honest, the only content I tend to watch from them is when they play a game I've played in the past or anything that isn't RPG based (like party games). The reason why I watch those episodes the most is because 1) there's a sense of familiarity in them, since I actually played those games before, and 2) RPG games rely heavily on puzzle mechanics, and it can be tiring to see the Grumps stalling themselves by not having any clues on what they need to do, and this is pretty common, since they tend to suck at most games they play. Aside from playing video games, another thing I like about them is that they're also the members of one of my favorite bands: Starbomb. They, along with Brian Wecht, Dan's co-bandmate of his band Ninja Sex Party, create these parodical songs based on either a video game or an anime. My favorite song from the band is titled "Welcome to the Mario Party", which is about Mario holding an adult-oriented party at a lavish mansion. They've implied that the third album they released, The Tryforce, might be their last, so to show my love if they ever disband this band, I decided to pre-order a CD copy of The Tryforce (which came with signatures and a poster), and a vinyl record collection that contains all three albums, along with other goodies like a sticker sheet, a poster, a card with signatures, and a mystery pin. Speaking of the vinyls, when it was first announced, they quickly sold out like hotcakes, and I was unable to place my order for one. Thankfully, a second announcement was made months later where they said that they re-stocked on the vinyl collection, and this time, I managed to place an order for one just in case they would sell out again. It was $125, and it won't arrive until December of this year, but hey, at least it'll make an excellent Christmas present.
When it comes to making this artwork, the only things I feel worth mentioning are the object I put in the background. The Wheel of Fortune wheel and the toys on the counter are supposed to be nods to the two moments in the show that made me laugh the hardest. The wheel is a reference to when Arin and Dan played Wheel of Fortune, and Dan was so unlucky, he kept on landing on the "Lose a Turn" slot, and his and Arin's breakdowns got progressively worse. For the toys, it comes from their playthrough of a party game called Imagine: Party Babyz. One of the minigames they played had them controlling their babies to bring bath toys to them in a plastic kiddie pool, and Dan, impressed by how Arin's baby is doing so well, comments that his baby is do so well because "he has more fast-twitch muscle fibers." As for the pictures on the wall, one is obviously an homage to Jon, the original not-so-grump. I made his plaque say "what" because one of the most iconic reaction clips I've seen on Twitter has Jon saying "WHAT?! WHAT THE F*CK?!", and the other picture is actually a pixelated version of my Kirby 30th anniversary artwork . I put that in to make the image look more filled in, and for the sake of balance.
That's all I have to say here. Hope you liked my art, and here's to Arin and Dan continuing us with the laughter and stupidity.
