Description
After nearly three years of hanging out with frogs, newts and toads, the adventures in Amphibia come to an end in one final battle.

Tomorrow, the world will witness "The Hardest Thing", the epic conclusion to the Disney Channel animated series Amphibia. I find it crazy how this show started out as the slice-of-life adventures of a teenage girl getting stuck in a world of amphibians to literally ending with an epic battle that would determine the fate of an entire planet. I mentioned on Twitter several days ago that I compared this show to Adventure Time, Regular Show and Steven Universe, as they all started out and ended the exact way I just mentioned.

Back to Amphibia, if you've been following the series lately, then you're likely familiar with the events of the previous episode, "All In", where Darcy (the Core possessing Marcy) unleashed a full-blown attack on Earth, and Anne, Sasha, the Plantars and all their allies worked together to stop the invasion. Well, spoilers if you haven't seen it yet, near the end of episode, Sasha was able to defeat Darcy by slicing off the cord attached to the helmet that the Core uses to control Marcy, which successfully saves Marcy, but just when the castle is returned to Amphibia, everyone discovers to their horror that the moon over Amphibia is beaming red and is slowing descending into the planet's atmosphere. As it was shown in one of the commercials for "The Hardest Thing", the moon is actually the Core's "final gambit", and it's now up to Anne, Sasha and Marcy to stop this evil entity once and for all.

I'm... really scared for how this finale will go. It's not just the fact that it's the series finale to a show I adore, but I fear that the series will end in a certain way that will likely destroy me. That ending in question is that the portal to Amphibia will likely be sealed forever, and the girls will no longer have contact with their friends on Amphibia. This ending came to mind just from the title, "The Hardest Thing", as I believe that the hardest thing for anyone to do is saying goodbye to someone you love. But I could be wrong; maybe this so-called "Hardest Thing" will mean something completely different in the long run. Maybe Andrias will sacrifice himself to make up for giving the girls a hard time, maybe the overall plan to defeat the Core will require a mountainous level of luck, who knows? Anyways, I'm cautiously optimistic for the final episode, and I do hope it goes off with a powerful bang, so that we can remember this show on the same level of Gravity Falls.

Now onto the artwork!

Similar to my "True Colors" artwork for Amphibia, I wanted to make this artwork look like a promo card. Since it was shown in one of the commercials that the Core's final form will literally be the moon, I decided to have the three girls preparing themselves to fight the monstrosity. This drawing has a few firsts: 1) this is the first time I drew each of the three girls in full body wearing their Amphibia clothes, and 2) this is the first time I drew Anne with her souped-up blue powers. Speaking of powers, another thing I noticed in the commercial was that this could be the episode where Sasha and Marcy finally get their gem powers, hence why I also gave them a glow and colored their eyes.

Also, if you're a die-hard fan of the show, you're probably familiar with the poses the girls are making. For those not in the know, the poses they are in are the ones they make in the image of the prophecy shown at the end of the theme song . Since this is the final episode, I really hoping that the show will fulfill on making that stone carving a reality.

Originally, I was going to include some orange lighting on the girls to show just how close they are to the threat, but after trying it on Anne, the effect really didn't sit well with me, so I decided to drop that idea. Instead, I just drew a giant orange circle to put in the corner. As for the background, I sampled the colors from a still from the commercial of the moon hurling towards the surface. The stars you see are actually from a stock image. Funny story, a couple weeks ago, someone on Twitter noticed that on the poster for the 2018 Aquaman film was a stock image of a shark, and criticized its usage, saying something along the lines of "Why do people use stock images? Are they just lazy?" A lot of people responded to the tweet by saying "That is exactly what stock images are used for." People use stock images not only because that's their purpose, but also because they're used to make things pop out more or are for things that the artist can't pull off. One notable example of stock images in my art is my Splatoon 5th anniversary pic, where all the fireworks are stock images because I'm unable to make exploding fireworks look believable.

Let us never forget the adventures of Anne Boonchuy, Sasha Waybright, Marcy Wu, Sprig, Polly, and Hop Pop Plantar, and everyone else.
