Can Sam ever realistically hope to pay off her debt through her work, or does it just grow daily as her housing and food expenses are incurred?

well i can't answer this for sure , because i'm not the one who came up with her story
maybe she worked for a while until her parents considered that she learned her lesson and decided to give her a second chance

I hope her parents will relent.  This job seems to be wearing on Sam more and more as time goes on, but I do hope she learns her lesson.

She will eventually learn the value of hard work, meet a cute guy, go back to college, earn a degree, get married, get a dog, get another dog, have a son, have a daughter, and live happily ever after.

But first she's got more work to do.

Nice to see she has a happy ending.  Her supervisors should probably stick her to doing some very hard work while they can then.

Does this resort ever employ corporal punishment as a form of negative reinforcement to sloppy or neglected work?

Sorry to disappoint, but not in my creative vision.

If you'd like to imagine such a policy for the resort however, please have at it. It could even make for some interesting scenes.

Well, I would imagine that Clara, the middle manager, would be the one carrying out any sort of physical punishment with a thick wide leather belt she wears  (note Sam's wary glance out the corner of her eye, suggesting that she has already experienced the kiss of the leather.

Unfortunately for the staff, it takes only a complaint from a disgruntled guest to jeopardize their shapely rears

That's probably the reason for her apprehension. I would suspect that she is always just a bit uneasy in Clara's presence. In fact, I bet Sam is ready to send home a heartfelt letter of contrition, in hopes that her parents will come and rescue her from her indentured status. Even though that would end our voyeuristic fun!

Dearest Samantha,

I received your most recent letter. While I sympathize with the shame you feel at working as a barefoot maid at Majestic Elegance Resort, I cannot, in good conscience, do anything to help you. I have built our family's economic prosperity through hard work alone, and I feel that you would benefit from that virtue as well. When you have earned enough money to pay for your own passage back to the United States, I will again consider paying your college tuition. Until then, take pride in your work, even if that work is scrubbing tile floors.

Love,

Your father

Awwwww. Is that a tear I see rolling down her cheek? He didn't even sign it "Dad". She must really feel disowned now. I feel sorry for her, but, alas, I am a poor man. I cannot help her either.

She's on her own. To make matters worse, the island's minimum wage is quite a lot lower than in most countries. Add to that the fact that Sam still owes for her time as a guest at the resort and has payroll deductions for room and board; she could end up working here for a good long time.

Realizing her plight, she sends a heartfelt letter to her kid sister, who is actually going to be graduating high school in the fall. She begs her sister to intercede to Mom on her behalf, even if it takes going behind Daddy's back. She spins a wretched tale of domineering bosses, and leering guests who stare unabashedly at Sam's thin, sweat soaked uniform, able to see quite clearly that the staff is issued only thong underwear. She even fabricates a small fib that her main boss is rumored to be a lesbian, thinking that adding a threat of molestation might spark some maternal instinct.

Hey sis,

How've you been? Not bad here. I got your letter. Actually, dad had already told me and mom about your predicament. He didn't say anything about a lesbian boss. I'm not sure what to say about that. Well, uh, I take that back; I know exactly what to same. Shame on you, Samantha Garner, for trying to stir up a homophobic scare to get out of trouble of your own creation. Anyway, it's not my place to lecture you though, so that's all I'm going to say about this.

Anyway, as you know, I'm going to be graduating from high school here in a couple of months. It looks like I'm on track to have a perfect 4.0 GPA. I'm guessing you won't be back in the States in time to attend. Anyway, mom and dad are so proud. As a matter of fact, they're sending me to the Caribbean as a graduation present. I'll be staying at Majestic Elegance Resort. That's where you're working, right? If you have a day off, maybe we can hang out or something. In any case, I'm sure I'll see you there.

XOXO,
Steph

Sam probably assumes that Stephanie will also get to invite some of her best GF's along to share her graduation present. And suppose that they ask to have Sam as their personal servant? How deliciously humiliating would that be for our copper-tressed young lassie?

prodigal-gamer In reply to huberthowhow [2014-03-11 11:33:17 +0000 UTC]

Stephanie will definitely be bringing friends along. Sam, without a doubt, will be responsible for porting their luggage, fetching drinks, and cleaning their rooms.

I must admit, I've become fascinated with the saga of poor Sam. I have been thinking a lot about the poor gal, and her unenviable situation. Is there a story somewhere,  I could catch up on reading? I visualize a number of things happening to her, especially once Stephanie and her friends arrive. BTW, I don't know about you, but I can't view any of our latest conversation in the picture comments.

Sadly, there is no good place to look to read more about Sam and her predicament. I actually created her several years ago for a horror-themed, play-by-post, role-playing game. The game was to have a typical teen/tween slasher vibe and be set at a tropical resort. I thought instead of playing a usual vacationer, I'd play a down-on-her-luck college dropout.

The game never really took off, but Sam secured a place in my head and heart. I actually have a couple of comics by different artists that show Sam running out of money, being forced to take a job as a maid to cover her debt, doing chores around the resort, and even encountering the slasher's first victim.

I am torn between two versions of Sam. One that faces off against and ultimately survives this slasher; and one who continues to struggle with economic woes and subservience issues without ever encountering a knife-wielding killer. Anyway, if you'd be interested in seeing some of these comics, message me with your e-mail address, and I will share them with you.

prodigal-gamer In reply to AnirBrokenear [2014-01-26 16:46:24 +0000 UTC]

That is a little more accurate. I think in some future commissions, I might like to see some more interaction between Sam and her boss's assistant. I will have to think on this. Anir, out of curiosity, did you have a name in mind for the assistant? Any of teh other characters? Even though I dreamed some of them up, I have never considered names for them, and the assistant is pretty much all your creation (but I am really kind of fond of her).

well no ,not really, but i'd love to name them

by looking at their faces and attitude i'd say the assistant could be named  Clara (she has a nice face)

where the manager could be named Anicia and the other maid could be called Tanice

I think those are great names, and like I said, in the future, I'd love to see more of Clara. In particular, I'd like to see her growing more comfortable supervising the uniformed staff.

Sam originally came to the resort as a guest (after dropping out of college). She enjoyed her stay for a while, then her parents canceled her credit cards, leaving her with no way to pay her bill. Hence, the new job.

prodigal-gamer In reply to huberthowhow [2014-01-12 13:17:42 +0000 UTC]

Sam is the girl cleaning the toilet. Her full name is Samantha Garner and she is one of my OCs. After failing/dropping out of college, she fled to a tropical resort where she and her family used to vacation. When her parents found out, they cut off her creditline, and Sam was forced to get a job at the resort.

Sam was originally created for a play-by-post, horror-themed, role-playing game set at said resort. Unfortunately, the game never really got started, so Sam is just stuck working as a maid.

Why are they barefoot, though?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

prodigal-gamer In reply to GreenSprite [2014-02-04 12:53:44 +0000 UTC]

Short, out of character, answer is because I really like barefoot girls.

Longer answer-- having the maids work barefoot serves two purposes. One, this resort is set on a tropical isle. Most of the industry comes in the form of tourism. The resort is selling the idea of a relaxed, barefoot lifestyle. "See, look, even our mades are barefoot; they're having a great time working here." Second, it creates a social divide between the poorer, uniformed, barefoot staff and the well-dressed, shod, managerial staff. I hope that kind of makes sense.

I see. I found it particularly unpleasant in this image because I imagine they would be cleaning the floor too, so they're stepping barefoot (and kneeling) in pretty harsh chemicals. But I suppose realism/practicality is not the main point here

Right-o, realism takes a back seat to fantasy... or maybe they are using high quality, all natural, non - caustic cleaners.
