Thank you sir! Believe it or not, I didn't realize that teal and coral were complementary colors until I did this fractal. No wonder I liked the colors in this one.

I think I'm heading to bed. I've got a small project and worked on it until midnight. I want to get it out in a hurry because it's a really small one and won't earn me much... but some is better than none.

I started on Acad back at version 9 I think
it was when it was still DOS based! When 12
came out and went to Windows it was heaven!
We could actually have more than one dwg open
at a time! Cut and paste became pretty popular! lol

anjaleck In reply to Fractalholic [2012-04-20 07:33:57 +0000 UTC]

LOL... yup... and it's even better now. I wouldn't be able to do what I do without making lots and lots of blocks... and now I can edit them right in the drawing.

Fractalholic In reply to anjaleck [2012-04-20 07:42:18 +0000 UTC]

When I used it for control designs for machines
that built cars using robot welders, I wrote a couple
of programs in VB. It would take a 60 to 80 sheet
drawing package and after filling out a short form,
would create a new package (write block out the old)
with new title blocks and the new title block info!
Saved us having a detailer spend 1 to 2 days of changing it
manually. It was kinda fun!!

anjaleck In reply to Fractalholic [2012-04-20 08:19:19 +0000 UTC]

Wow... that does sound like fun. However, I'm not going to be able to do it because I know nothing about programming!

Fractalholic In reply to anjaleck [2012-04-20 08:44:10 +0000 UTC]

I didn't know any programming either! I bought
the program (500.00 at the time) and played with
it on my lunch hours. It worked and once it was
compiled to an exe no one would know how lousy
the programming was! lol

You're smarter than I am then! There was a point... version 14... when I could do some simple Lisp programming but that was about it.

Anj

Fractalholic In reply to anjaleck [2012-04-21 03:55:29 +0000 UTC]

Well.. the program I did just wrote a script
and then fed it to Acad. It was pretty simple
but looked impressive. What made it possible
is GM had strict standards for their dwg's
and EVERYONE had to follow them. That meant
everything was exactly where it was supposed
to be making automation on the dwg's pretty
easy.

I also did a batch plot since we didn't have
anything like it at the time!! AH the good ole
days! Now I'm lucky if I can remember my name!!

anjaleck In reply to Fractalholic [2012-04-21 04:01:58 +0000 UTC]

LOL.. you and me both on the name bit, my friend!

Gosh, it's so different now... there's no longer a batch plot. Instead it is "publishing". I don't care for the publisher though. Oh well, it doesn't matter what I don't like because I have to use it for work.

Fractalholic In reply to anjaleck [2012-04-21 04:06:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes lots has changed! We also always worked in model
space and never played in paper space at all! That
changed too with the Windows versions!

I really miss it! i used it everyday for so so long
and now I haven't used it in at least 6 or 8 years!
I probably couldn't draw a line now!!! lol

OH the last version I used was 2000. I really
liked it though and used it to about 2006 or 7!
Haven't even seen the newer versions.

anjaleck In reply to Fractalholic [2012-04-21 05:20:35 +0000 UTC]

OMGosh! I hated 2000. It was the worst of both worlds. I found that there are work-horse versions and 14 was that for me. Then I found it again in the 2006 version. That's why I still use it mostly, even though I have 2010. I can do so much more so much faster with 2006!

Fractalholic In reply to anjaleck [2012-04-21 05:31:05 +0000 UTC]

OH I skipped 14 and went from 13 to 2000.
It seemed a little weird at first but I got
used to it pretty quick.

Are you still using 2 letter commands??
Geez I loved em and carried them over to
every new version!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

anjaleck In reply to Fractalholic [2012-04-21 05:50:48 +0000 UTC]

Single letter commands too. That's one thing about my age I guess... I type all my commands. I am NOT a "picker". My screen is really clean when I'm working because of that. I don't have all the menus up. Of course, that makes it really hard for some one else to work with my machine!

14 was a work horse and was wonderful to use. And then when 2000 came out I hated it because it was so hard to do things. Then when 2002 and 2004 came out things were so much better. I effective skipped 2000 because I just didn't use it.

I too never used the menu's, really didn't need
to. AND I wouldn't want anyone else working on
my machine anyway! lol

Catia is 3d software. It seemed like everyone was
going 3d so I played around a little with it. Catia
designers were making very very good money and there
seemed to be many opportunities for someone who could
use it! I was never able to get a copy to learn it though.

I used to see lots of jobs for ProE also. Never even
seen that one.

BIM is the new thing... I think it's done with Autodesk software. I haven't gotten into that one because it's soooooooo expensive!

Fractalholic In reply to anjaleck [2012-04-21 06:40:08 +0000 UTC]

Yep! It an Autodesk app. I imagine it would be
very expensive! Heck Acad is bad enough! Same
with Catia, it was outrageous!
