Description
A spiral I made in Apo today... actually my first. I worked on this a long time and still am not entirely pleased with it. The right half looks good to me... the left half seems a little rough. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for looking!
Hugs,
Anj

I think it is beautiful, Anj. I do agree with zsteve's tips. I play with those settings a lot on my pieces. This is very good for your first spiral.

Thank you, Kim!
Yup... I play with those settings. This one was rendered at a lower than default gamma and a lower brightness. It seemed nothing I could do would get that left side where I wanted it to go... sigh.

Neat!
I like the color combinations and how the whole thing looks like it's one big diagonal.

That's a great spiral Anj.. very feathery!
Do you tweak in post-work? If so, try reducing colour saturation and playing with brightness, contrast etc. Detail can be lost if the settings are too high. If there is no post-work, you may want to adjust the Apo render settings for vibrancy, gamma etc. Render something with a short render time so you can tweak to your liking. When you find settings you like, you can often apply them to a lot of renders.

I generally don't do true post work. I do post render processing in Apo though... and I' really, really played with this one. If I toned down the colors on the left to the point where I was happy with them, the colors on the right faded out. I had gamma down and brightness too. I don't remember what I did with vibrancy in the post render process.
You know, I might play with rendering something smaller next time, as you suggest. It's weird, but none of my fractals (except for the plastic script ones) use the same settings. Sometimes I have gamma at the default 4 - sometimes at 3 or 3.5 and sometimes as low as 2. Depending on the fractal I've also had brightness as low as 1.2. It seems like every one of my fractals is a living thing and needs its own nourishment.
I do like that idea of doing a smaller render at a bit less density and then seeing if I like what comes out. Thanks for the suggestion!
Hugs and love,
Anj

You're welcome Anj.. it can be a tricky thing to find just the right settings for a particular fractal, to bring out its salient qualities.

You're exactly right there, Steve, and since I don't really do post render work, I'm kinda stuck. But *Fractoid gave me a tip... the post transform... I'd not used it before.
