Description
So I don't talk about it much but I've always been a bit bothered by the lack of serious relation ship development between Mickey and Minnie. If the two of them are ment to be together forever, why aren't they officially married?I can already answer that for you, and it's the unofficially called the Barbie syndrome. Because the characters need to maintain a wholesome image marketable for children, they're not allowed to give off the impression that they've had sex or want to have sex before marriage. Marriage, however, is treated as a happily ever after situation, so it's funner to have the characters go through ups and downs of a relationship before settling down with their real one true love. When done right, unrequited love is actually a key to good storytelling and character development, but stupid when it's done for the sake of merchandising.
Mickey and Minnie were created for each other. There is NO other man Minnie could really settle down with, and there are no other women who'd want Mickey, but for the sake of interesting plot devices Disney himself refused to let the two become officially hitched. I would agree that once two characters get together you loose a certain percent of your audience ( Such as Niles and Daphne from Fraiser; great for closer, bad for entertainment). Still who else could you possibly see Micky and Minnie with that could market the same way, without killing one or the other off (such as the backlash over Pixar getting rid of Bo Peep as Woody's girl in Toy Story 3)? In recent times, they have given Goofy Clarabelle Cow as girlfriend, rather then keeping her with Horace Horse, mainly because Goofy needs to appear to have a female interest.
Even though the mouses aren't much more then just sweethearts, Disney is not against advertising their characters as a married couple. For those who don't know, Motherhood is a chain of clothing stores (or A store that exists in my local mall) that sells fashionable cloths to expecting mothers. While this shot by no means sets anything in stone, it is quite an odd pose that SOMEONE HAD TO DRAW to look like they're a couple happy to have something new come along in a few months. I had to share it with you because I would like to see more of the two of them being more then mindless drones.

Maybe they aren't married, but in a permitted relationship. Have you ever watched "Mickey's Nightmare"?

I don't know who to blame. The marketing at Disney or the mindless drones who buy the stuff without thinking about it.

I think those characters were Mickey's Cousins playing the parts of their kids. I forgot their name, but there are a "Hewy Dewy & Lewy" versions of Mickey running around, but they don't use them a lot now.

Personally I would love to see Mickey and Minnie get married in an actual animated special. It would be very sweet.
About the comment you made about Clarabelle Cow
In the original Floyd Gottfredson comics Horace and Clarabelle got engaged and were to be married, but for some reason the writers today ~*except the international and some american comic writers*~ avoid that fact and even deny that the two are even a couple. It even bothers me that Horace is not seen as much he did in the 1930's. I'm NOT trying to bash the Goofy/Clarabelle pairing but I've always known that Horace and Clarabelle were a couple since as long as I can remember.
There are so many ideas for these two and all the other characters, if the guys at Disney could just stop and think without adding money into the mix.

Right it just seems that a horse and a cow would make a perfect couple rather then a Dog/Man and a Cow/Woman. Still it's what ever works for the audience. If they made a stronger girl for Goofy (like that librarian from the 2nd Goofy Movie) then we might get more Horace and Clarabelle.

I agree with you on that, cause if that happens the fans could stop calling a Clarabelle a sl*t. I mean I do alot of Horace x Clarabelle art, but that's gotten some people wanting Horace and Clarabelle back as a couple. But we'll just wait and see what happens.

According to Disney, Mickey and Minnie are married in real life. They just play boyfriend/girlfriend on camera. I know what you mean by letting Mickey/Minnie and Donald/Daisy getting hitched. I'm waiting for an episode to show them getting married but my siblings told me that they getting married would lose the audience's interest. However, I can think of new ideas and challenges they can go through:
1. Mickey accidentally forgetting about his wedding anniversary
2. Daisy wants to have kids but Donald doesn't
3. Goofy babysitting the children of Mickey/Minnie and Donald/Daisy
I agree with you about TS3. Although, I adore the film, I was downhearted that they killed off Bo Peep. I praise them for giving a tiny explanation of what happened to her, Wheezy and other toys that appeared in the previous TS films. Lee Unkrich has stated his reasons why they had to take Bo Peep out of the film which I understand. She is a porclein doll; the kids'll break her in seconds at Sunnyside! During the other rough stuff that the toys went through, I doubt Bo peep'll survive since she is very fragile.

I haven't heard of Goofy with Clarabelle, actually...I always thought she was still with Horsecollar. And I can see that you're still salty over the whole Bo and Woody aspect of TS3. I gave my 2 cents before, though, so I won't repeat too much on the subject.
Also, if they started as a married couple, it'd be all fine and dandy. It's how they START in a relationship that bonds them, and starting out as singles made it so that it has to work that way for them.
As for the image, I actually never thought of them married at all from this. She's a mother expecting, and most mothers will take their kids for Happy Meals and watch Disney cartoons with their kids; considering their history, people may be looking a little too deeply at the ad to see them as a married couple at this point.
Anyway, that's my little tidbit on it all.

Technically they're married but in the cartoons they're acting, so whatever the roll calls for, they play it. At least, that's how Disney put it. I forget where I read that so don't quote me on that... It does make sense if you think about it. Forever would they be bound to make cartoon shorts with them as a family. They could never go back to silly dating antics that occur when Mickey tries to take Minnie on a date. I just can't see that being as fun in some ways but in others it would bring a whole new set of challenges to the table. Bratty kids who make Mickey run around like the little turtle Sheldon (aaaa-heh heh heh heh heh) does with Donald Duck in those short cartoons.

Right I think I know what you're talking about, but I think I've heard others answers to that to. The comics go REALLY into the family line, such as Donald and Daisy had a few kids, as well as Micky and Minnie. And likewise what ever fits the storyline for the moment is the best route to take for the characters, but when I see things like Mickey Mouse Club house I just get so upset.
Still this motherhood was a funny image to pass by, had to snap shot it.
Makes me think if they'll revive any of Oswald's rivals and girls. Typically he's been seen with a cat girl and I'd rather he have her instead of a rabbit clone girl.

NO not really, but I'd like to think that Mickey's nephews are somehow REALLY their kids. They are mice, it's hard NOT for them to reproduce like mad. I mean they look just like him

The comics have gotten away with a bit more I think than the mainstream cartoon can in such an unfortunately PC world. Now, for sure Mickey had to take care of his two nephews at one point and they caused all kinds of havoc (naturally) but I;d have to read more older comics to see Donald/Daisy or any other Mickey/Minnie things they wrote.
Basically with Clubhouse, they're trying to get kids interested in learning with a familiar set of cartoon faces. The concept isn't new, but using such established characters kinda is. When you really look at Mickey's past and then immediately look at Clubhouse, yeah, you're gonna see a wild difference that is displeasing but for little ones it's fantastic.
As for an Oswald and co. revival... Epic Mickey for Wii may supply you with something. For sure Oswald's in it as an antagonist of sorts.
