Guess my series of stamps wasn't over just yetIt's just kind of annoying when the LP of the famous game based off Slenderman is all newcomers know about Slenderman and how a lot of people are only part of the fanbase because of his LP video.

Marble Hornets is a awesome work of art. And that Victor guy deserves much more recognition. I haven't even played the video game thing ... i learned about the Slenderman thru some google links and then watching the MH series and the following ones.

I only saw his amnesia video.... Pewdiepie is ok.....
But I even knew this before even watching pewdiepie.:I
Of course I never knew somebody on DA made him, I kind of learned about him from some friends and artists here. And this was all before the game and pewdiepie.

Yeah but I also learned about him from this amazing artist named *Cageyshick05
I kind of feel bad for not knowing ~Victor-Surge was his creator...:/
But hey, better learning more about Slenderman besides franchises right?;D

seriously I just HATE it when they only know him by that freaking game "which I think is too steriotypically simple and just plain awful. a better game would be if you were in his WORLD.

I'll just point to Maduin's (of worstjokeever.blogspot.com) experiment of exposing different people to Slender Man each in a different manner. I'm pulling this off of my head, forgive me, but I think it was that one was exposed to him through his memetic nature (Concrete Giraffes, $20, and Splendor Man), and the other two were exposed from His 'real' side (I think it was through Marble Hornets, the SomethingAwful threads, and some other stuff available). While the one who was first exposed to the humorous side went on spouting the meme's for a few days before upright forgetting about Him, and calling it overused or something, the others got involved in a whole lot of investigating the creature and becoming very paranoid, and in the end contracted the likeness of 'Slender Sickness' before eventually becoming victimized by Him. Though this whole experiment was fictitious, I feel it gives a pretty accurate model of how things turn out for someone exposed to the various angles surrounding the Slender Man, and that the game Slender is just a new perspective to view from. It produces 'fans' obsessed with the meme-side of the Tall Guy, and a lot of the times it get's very annoying. Often they aren't swayed to investigate any farther, and just accept that joke version of Slender Man that they are given.
I do find myself pining every now and then for the old days when Slender Man was much less a schoolyard name. There was a sense of realism to it, and that was just as good as anything. And though I often find myself cursing these new fans, it does good to realize that such does no good. If you want to point them into the darker side of the Slenderverse, go ahead --however it is much less likely they'll become very taken with it-- but if you just belittle it and pull the 'I knew about Slender Man before it was cool' card, it's just prudish and creates the sense that the Slenderverse is just a bunch of stuck up hipsters and you can't like Him unless you knew about him three year's prior to this fiasco. And that's simply not the case. Other people should never dictate what other people like, even if it's what you like and it's goddamned annoying.
The best thing to do is just let it go its course. They'll forget soon enough, move on, and no longer become a problem. I feel like a hypocrite saying it, but turn the other cheek and ignore.
TL;DR I'm there with you, it's annoying no doubt, fads happen all the time and the best thing to do is just ignore.

The experiment you mentioned was actually a smart and interesting idea. It's kind of amazing what sort of impression something can give off in different lights.
I don't directly belittle people for not liking Slenderman before he became a fad. All I do is express annoyance that the fanbase wasn't quite what it used to be and that Slenderman's horror appeal has kind of gone down since 2012. It's not the recent popularity that bothers me. It's just that a lot of newcomers tend to thrust him into a very watered-down light filled with overused jokes and sugar-coated fawning. I would have no problem with the popularity if so many newer fans didn't water him down so much. And it's something that's hard to ignore when this makes the majority of the fanbase now.

Then I'm totally there with you. I have just seen a good amount of people who are more outwardly aggressive to some of these 'newcomers', and meant nothing personal by my post (if you took it that way, but it doesn't seem like you did). Any who, keep on keeping on, and I like your stamps.

Even though I do enjoy Pewdiepie (I don't mind if people dislike him either, it's just my opinion as it is yours ) I absolutely agree with you. I knew about Slenderman before Pewdie was ever popular, and people associate Pewdie with the Slenderman because he did make the game skyrocket in popularity. But people who think that it is Pewdiepie's creation really need to get over themselves, and just Google search something for once.
Marble Hornets has contributed more to the Slenderman mythos/fanbase than Pewdiepie has.

Oh god i hate those people who would rather watch his silly reaction gameplays instead of reading a few of old stories created by Victor(That would rule number one to know about The Slender Man since he did create him) or watch MarbleHornets(Or other SlenderVlogs like it but MH would be better to watch first really) to know about some stuff of The Slender Man
