Thanks so much! I got into old blues/jazz years ago when Poppy Z. Brite mentioned New Orleans' jazz in one of her novels. There is nothing like that languid, rich, slow sound, accompanied by a glass (or three) of red wine. The perfect birthday music indeed!

I 100% agree with you. I'm a big fan of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and I know both bands were inspired by jazz and blues (The Stones probably more so than The Beatles, actually). The US is a melting pot of so many different cultures and identities - like a lot of countries, to be fair - that it is hard to find a genuine 'States Style'. Yet, when I listen to European music, I find a lot of Stateside culture in many of the artists' music that I listen to - from hip hop to blues, and from jazz to R'n'B. I think the world is becoming a melting pot when it comes to the entire world of art. Well, at least I hope it is. We can all learn from each other on so many levels. If only all of us opened up their hearts and minds to other peoples and customs...

Yes, I agree that today nothing is truly original. Everyone begs, borrows or steals. But jazz originated here as an art form entirely unique to this country...and then the world.
