Captain Rohit Jayaramin's Log, Mission Date November 16th, 2084.

We have been on course for three months to get to Aweknedel, the closest non-hostile planet we could find mentioned in the remnants of the Spider-bot computers. As we approach the planet we will broadcast a message of friendly intent and hope that the planet is still non-hostile and that our broadcast will be received peacefully. If not, we are prepared.

Senior Fleet Engineer Paul Hastings, War Commander Yoito Suzuki and Senior Diplomat Musa Okafor are in attendance on the main bridge to be present for the first (hopefully) peaceful contact between human beings and another sentient species. If our contact is peaceful Musa will formally greet the beings we contact and request a meeting. If our contact is ambivalent or hard to fathom he will attempt to negotiate a peaceful meeting. If our contact is hostile Yoito and Paul will attempt to utilize the fleet defenses to keep us safe and possibly make a hasty retreat if things get too heated. It's been many years since the Spider-bots attack and we simply do not know if anything has changed on Aweknedel in the intervening years.

Hopefully our contact will be peaceful. One thing is certain however. Humanity will not be caught unawares again. Not if we can help it.
