Hello all,Just a quick sketch this time, nothing particularly exciting - a craft being prepared for a desert race. This was painted really quickly - probably about 30-35 mins start to finish so it's more than a little rough!

Wacom Intous 3 Tablet
30-35 mins.

I just wanted to say that I love this particular speed paint of yours, for the time it took it seems to have a lot of effort put in it especially when it comes to the design of the ship, and the people and other crafts in the background. All the little details really make this picture come alive in my opinion and makes me want to travel to a beautiful desert flying through the sky.
You say it looks"more than a little rough" although I think it suits it perfectly! Great Job!

Good lord. o.o It's a lovely piece, the colours all work so well, and the composition itself is striking. Great job, I'd love to see what type of work you could create with a few hours if your pieces are this great after less than one!

That's awesome! It fits right into the subject I'm working on too, so BONUS! The sort of hazy detail gives the whole piece the appearance of heat, flowing off the surface, and does tons to make the picture more lifelike!

Even in 30 minutes you really do produce stunning work, and I know why: you know where to place light, shadow and tone. In order to do something like this folks, you need to have studied value and light enough where you know just where to put it on canvas. If you hesitate and are unsure of yourself, it'll take much longer. This is essentially a value study, but even so, you can tell just what kind of planet they're on, see and interpret details on the ships, and gauge their size. It's obviously a very hazy and probably hot day on this desert planet.

Where do you get all these ideas? I mean do you use ref? Not for the drawing itself but for your universe, ships, etc...

The thing that really captivates me when seeing a digital painting appear in my watch list, is never really knowing the level of detial upon seeing it first time, I just love with digi painting that the thumbs can appear like photos, and then presto upon one clcik, you get to see all that lovely detail

Hey Gary! Your use of colour theory and light is really marvelous, you ever think of doing live stream tutorials? Your book is really marvelous (I have it) but I'm sure folks would get a LOT out of practical demonstrations, and likely pick your book up as a result
