Description
This is a little bit of a revisit to an old idea – “Orbit” was originally just me mucking about but became very popular for prints and publishing – however I never really thought that much about it at the time (I was literally just sketching space art as a bit of fun between projects). I loved the idea of the piece so now, 8 years on I've had another stab at it.
“A highly advanced race builds an enormous spaceport off the coast of a continent, dwafing the 20km high skyscrapers on the land, the main structure brushing the cloud layers with near 100km diameter docking spurs surrounding it. Built above the main structure, another level that is beyond the atmosphere – allowing craft to dock without braving the weather on the planet”

About 20-22 hour work.
I used some great photos of Earth from space as reference for the world.

You caught my eye while I was wandering through some pages and when I clicked for a full view, amazing. I love the amount od detail that you put into this scene and how things sort of blend out the further into the distance that you look. Very nice work.

When making the main planet, was one of the reference photo's this one [link] Since I referenced from that brilliant photo in a recent deviation of my own, and I can sorta see a connection with this to that, especially in the shape an dlighting of the main clouds where that tall tower is sticking out from.
Nice job on the actual buildings, the perspective and lighting are great, if I ever trie dthat, I would probably have to be forced to do the buildings in 3D.

Stunning. I can't seem to take my eyes off it. This has the quality of those classic matte paintings they did for the original Star Wars trilogy here.
I especially like the colors of the moons, clouds, and planet. They all work together visually and keep the eye focused on the details rather than distracting it.
That said, however, I think the larger moon could've used a little more detail. It seems a bit bland compared to the other scenery, and could've used a little more visual interest to draw the eye around the image.
