emerging happens through the decisions you make when creating your work(s)...not necessarily when it is shown and accepted/rejected by others
self examination and realization of motivation is a gift to the artist from the work

The lower part of this pic is also completely black, but it works because you have the face as the focus. It makes the pic feel claustrophobic, which is part of the idea, I guess.

I don't know, I think there could potentially be too much black area, or depending how you look at it not enough. At the moment it is sort of on a 50/50 basis. Claustrophobic? Hmmm interesting analysis, I may use that as a title if you don't mind.
