Well, you can't exactly beat the boss w/o beating the boss. I thought you jumped on them to kill them, because that's how you did it in all the games I played as a kid, but when I tried that in this one, I just rode around on their back forever... Yurns out, you have to use the B button sometimes...

The reason that you can't just jump on them is because the second Mario Bros. game isn't even a Mario game. The whole Mario theme was just added to a Japanese game when it was brought to America in order to increase sales.

Although that might explain why there's no perceiveable plotline...
