Description
After watching Steve Review's video on the movie 'Help! I'm a Fish', I decided to give it a watch. Because I do remember watching the last few minutes of it when I was a kid (I want to say I was about 5/6), as it was being aired on TV and my dad had this tendency to change channels whenever the ads popped up (it was particularly annoying when someone was starting to get invested in whatever was on, but dad would change the channel as soon as the ads rolled around and we'd lose a huge chunk of the previous program by the time he changed it back, like he could have just muted the ads for half a minute, but he rarely ever did! But, I digress...). And man, I wish I revisited this film sooner! It's so gorgeous, and while there are some plot issues, the story still has some decent set up and payoff. Basically, after watching the film, my brain did a thing and now I've made an OC.While the film focuses on the idea of humans turning into fish, my character, Marcie, is a fish that accidentally turned into a human. Specifically, she was a Chocolate Dip Damselfish (and yes, I picked this species in particular because it appealed to my inner Moriah Elizabeth, ). During the transformation, she got herself injured, resulting in amnesia; hence the massive scar on her forehead. So, she barely remembers anything before becoming human, all she knows was that she came from the ocean. She lives with Chuck and Aunt Anna, as she feels Chuck could help her piece together the gaps of her past, given his experience of being a Jellyfish for a while.
I don't want to spoil too much of what I have planned for Marcie, so I'll leave it at that. Before settling on the Chocolate Dip Damselfish, I had a bit of a hard time finding a fish to base a character on. After much deliberation, I settled on two options: the Damselfish and the Blue-Eyed Triplefin. After drawing up some concept art for both fish, the Damselfish was the clear winner. Because while I still liked the other design I came up with, I thought it looked waaay to similar to one of my other characters, Derya. Thinking of a name was hard too, I ultimately settled on Marcie because that's the name of the trainer in my copy of Pokemon Moon, plus I thought it was a good fit.
Enjoy or don't!
