You might want to consider using a darker color for the background. The text on shortcuts that appear in that area is nearly impossible to read.
It's worth moving them around to make it work, but it does effectively render half the desktop unusable.

Yeh there's definitely something messed up with this.
The chess pieces are "fat"... stretched out or something.
And the pieces don't line up with the squares at all.
It all looks almost distorted or something.
But other than that I think the glass effect and the lighting is killer. Nice one!
