I like it! It doesn't look realistic but I think people are always shooting for realism too much, these days. I like pixel-art, especially done like this. Congratulations on the DD!

Thinking about it I can probably do better nowadays, its just have been two months, but I learned a lot in those two months, especially things that would have been helpful for this.

In this particular picture I tried to catch something which very unusual/avoided in pixel art: somewhat realistic fire. The way fire looks like is just very hard to depict in pixel art. How it glows, how the colors blend into each other. It might not be realistic in comparison to what you can archive in other medias but I am pretty sure it will be hard to find a pixel art fire as realistic. Most people won't even try to make somewhat realistic fire in pixel art. Just highly stylized fire.

I don't usually trust GIMP with pixel art, but this came out great.

GIMP is quite good for pixel-art. A application which is specialized on pixel art might be better, but they usually require you to set a palette before working which I hate (I am usually adding and mixing colors on the fly).

The only reason why I don't like it is because there's a filter that can be put into the program that turns any normal painting into a pixel art. People tend to cheat like that.

Could have been done with paint, I use GIMP though. For this particular piece I only used the pencil tool.

I don't believe I've ever seen realistic pixel art before.

This is really nice the only thing i have to say is the color that is the center of the flame try to use white so you can go for the more realistic effect

At first I was like, "Oh, cool fire." Then I saw the title, and it said "pixel art". THAT'S when I went, "FOR THE LOVE OF HOLY FUDGING CHEESE. THAT'S PIXELS?!" And then I clicked. ;D
And now I'm impressed.
