If you translate what David actually said to the engineer... He purposely mispronounced a few subtle phrases changing its meaning completely.. Offering the tribal leader the honoured death blow of the dying man and himself as the weapon. He knew full well what the engineer would do next. David wanted Weyland his creator to die knowing there was nothing. The engineer simply retaliated when the others opened fire on him. Watch it again and look at the engineers expression of confusion and anger when they attack him.

Even more so when you understand David's obsession with Laurence of Arabia's burning match scene. And his conversations with the guy who looked like tom hardy but wasn't

They always find a way. There can be several Engineer characters. One all for destroying the two, one for helping the two, and another possibly neutral.

Look at what we accomplished: earth in turmoil, polution in degrees we do not even understand, yes, we humans 'did well'.

Actually, I think they did it just because they can. Both humans and aliens are like a science project to them, why not pit them against each other and see who comes out on top? It's like having two prized dogs fight each other just to see who wins.
