Description
UPDATED!!!The script now is easier to use, Windows dialogs help set the save path, lots more options! Many added rotational combinations are tested. This version is meant to replace the previous version.
Stereoscopic rendering in Apophysis 3D hack just got a LOT easier!
Stick to basic guidelines as you design, and then this script will evaluate your parameters and render a stereo pair for you. No more trying to figure out the right setting!
You will need at least two plugins that are in this package, "pre_spin_z" and "post_spin_z". Put them in your Plugins3D folder. That gives your Variations a full set of navigation controls. "Spin" is the same meaning as "rotate." The built in variations provide rotate X and Y, but not the Z... so here it is.
Other plugins in this package are needed for the demonstration Flame file.
Read the text file for detailed directions. The package includes a flame file, several example stereo pairs and the updated RenderStereo.asc script.
NOTE: This is an early version of this scripting effort! That means there will be updates soon. The current list of items to update is:
1. Check file names to prevent overwriting except by choice
2. For params that don't work, give the user the choice to:
a. exit so user can make changes to try again
b. automatically pick out an alternate value even though it will likely change the appearance of the fractal
Personally, unless the script is intended to explore design options, I don't want a script to change what I've carefully crafted, so I opted to exit the script instead of do anything that would change the appearance... Feedback from those of you who try this script would be appreciated!
Big thanks to Fred E. of the Apophysis email list for creating the skeleton code to get this one started. Another thanks to Keeps for suggestions and more code examples!
Please write if you have questions or problems of any sort. There may be refinements to make yet, and it is possible I've overlooked some combination of interaction.
For Apophysis 2.08 3D hack and probably Apo 7x

Running into a bit of a problem though: it tells me that my Pitch is at a value of 5156.xxx and that it can't go on, when it's actually set at 90! Rotation is at 0. Yaw at 0. What do you think it might be?

Hey, Thanks for this amazing script!
Would it be possible to have it save out a parameter file for each camera? I'm thinking how cool it would be to render out each cams in FLAM4
Thanks,
Martin

Hi Martin,
Yes, I believe that is possible and it's on the list for updates in the script. Some would like it to do batches too. If one does too much in a script it seems the dialog boxes go on forever, so perhaps a different version of the script should exist for these things and the user can keep it as simple as their needs might be.
Thanks for the comment!

You're welcome, and of course there will be more to come but it takes time.

Hi Amorina,
It's in the package you downloaded, and it's available on my site in another package...
Perhaps I need to amend the instructions to include putting the pre_spin_z and post_spin_z in the Plugins3D folder, because the script will definitely need that.
Those plugins provide navigation that the built in rotations do not provide. They provide rotate_x and rotate_y but not the rotate_z. Fred E. actually wrote up the "spin_z" and told me that he didn't want to call it by a name that might be used later if and when they actually build this essential Variation into the main program... so we decided on calling it "spin" instead of rotate.
The idea is to set your camera controls to a very limited, and mostly cardinal direction settings, and then don't touch the camera again till you're ready to render. The Variations for rotate and spin can provide complete navigation of the fractal flame.

Oh, wow!! Thanks so much for sharing this. I have been enamored of stereo Apos, but never got around to trying out the actual method. This should make things a whole lot easier. You're a pussycat!!
