Don't forget Japan for abusing the native Ainus.] and their war time crimes.
Canada for surpressing the Quebecois.
Serbia for against the declaration of independence for Kosovo...hell fuck half the countries in the world for not accepting it.
And most of all, America for being the Chinese allies in both WW1 and WW2 and their fails to prevent the spread of communism in Vietnam.

in WW1 & WW2 china was NOT 100% commie they only became commies in 1950 you see they were in a civil war that started in April 1927 and ended in May 1950.
and in the vietnam "war" was not just to stop the commies in vietnam it was a BIGGER thing it was one of many fights we had with the ussr during the Cold War.
the "war" was a C.I.A. mission thats way we did not declare war when we went.

You said fuck China. Didn't say shit about no communists.
The USSR was a communist nation. A big propaganda method used was to point out that they were fighting forces allied with communism and communism was evil. Without that method of thought the American populace may not have been as supporting as it was of the war. If you had said straight out "This isnt' a war, we're just sending our troops over there to fight", do you think people would support it as much?

It's a fantastic image, very powerful... the huge size of the portrait and the relatively diminutive stature of the soldier speaks volumes... not forgetting the view through the archway and the depth this picture is given by that. Everything is perfectly places.
However I feel that asking for restraint when requesting people not to comment on China's current political situation considering recent and pending events is like trying to make a horse drink...
Well deserved DD and an apt contemporary choice.

It is hard, but this is supposed to be art. Yes, photojournalism, but that doesn't necessarily mean politics. dA has no jurisdiction over what people choose to believe in religion and politics, so long as it doesn't run against other deviants on the site. And if two people were to get in a conflict over any of it, they would either ignore the situation or just ban them both, considering how banning one would make that persons behavior legit and the others wrong.

Art promotes debate, especially when it's either politically motivated or has a political theme. I'm neither agreeing nor disagreeing with the request, merely stating that it's unlikely that people will resist the urge to comment, as you have not. Likewise, I don't wish to get into a debate here and spoil this brilliant picture's dedication. If you wish to continue this discussion we can do so via notes. Thank you.

Nothing against the photo, its a great compositions. But the daily devitation comment makes me sick.

Is it any better than depicting Chinese people as a bunch of Manchu hats wearers and woman with leg exposing Qiqaos? I don't think we in the west will EVER be satisfied with the depiction of Chinese people in world media.

buy yourself a ticket and look at china yourself. This country has so many faces as they have citizens.

I'm Chinese myself. I know for a fact depicting 'true China' is as impossible as depicting 'true America' because there are many diverse minority groups and religions. My family is from the South and we are different form people from the North. The East is not the West, not everyone is a buddhist, not everyone is an atheist. There are Muslims and there are Christians, there are Tibetans, and there are Manchuans. It's very hard for any country not to be 'cliche', I live in Canada, apparently I'm suppose to great everyday with a smile and provide trucks load of relief money. I'm just saying no country can ever be accurately depicted because they have so many faces.

You forgot you're supposed to say "eh" and live in an igloo.
But I get what ya mean.
I'm from South Africa, and when I moved to the states, everyone called me a liar because I would tell stories of Johannesburg (a City). They all expected it to be mud huts and Swahili(sp?) speakin Natives, it never occurred to anyone that there could be another part of Africa than what they see on National Geographic.
Now living in Texas, I am expected to wear a cowboy hat and love Bush⦠of which, neither appeal to me.

Ask what someone who lived through the cultural revolution thinks about it.
School children are gathered to hold their little red book and recite an oath of loyalty to Mao. School children are gathered to hold their hands over their hearts and recite an oath of loyalty to the flag and nation that is the United States of America.
Before meals, soldiers would recite "We can do it," and other phrases of unity and loyalty to China. Before meals, soldiers would recite their thanks to God in prayer and bless their nation, the United States of America.
And this is one reason why foreigners are so mad at us; no one but we are allowed to be patriotic.

One man IS the nation? Well, that is the meaning of a dictatorship, so yeah. So then what are you saying about 57 united nations and territories in one federation snubbing their noses at this different kind of "patriotism"?

Herr-Amn In reply to KSDale03 [2008-08-08 17:34:19 +0000 UTC]
Only that the Cultural Revolution was a lot more than just school children thanking Mao. The reason why it's so condemned is not because of its promotion of extreme patriotism (which, by the way, is against Marxist-Leninism), but because of the roughly 60-80 million murdered during the Culture Revolution and The Great Leap Forward.

KSDale03 In reply to Herr-Amn [2008-08-08 20:36:17 +0000 UTC]
I didn't say that it was all that happened in the Cultural Revolution, it was just an example. My mom had to grow up through the cultural revolution, and saw all the changes, saw the killings, and the control.

I-D-S In reply to KSDale03 [2008-08-09 10:41:16 +0000 UTC]
As did my parents.
Why does everyone have to focus on the past? The past is history. Germany murdered six million Jews during the Holocaust; there were far more people in China, with a proportionally higher number of deaths. But no-one criticizes Germany anymore. Given, the Holocaust was earlier than the Cultural Revolution, but the outcry about the Cultural Revolution should have died down decades ago. Of course, it hasn't.
...I sense bias.

Also, America is jealous as shit at how China is able to do more for cheaper than we can here, yet we're supposed to be the land where dreams come true and you can do whatever you want and all that other crap.

America is the land where you can do whatever you want. Except if the Government doesn't like what you want to do, bad things happen to you. The FBI is really no better than the NKVD or the Gestapo or whatever.
My dreams come true - in my other dreams. How amazing.

If you notice, you can do whatever you want in America so long as someone says you can do it. I can't get a job at iTunes because they say I can't, not because of any real boundary.

That's true pretty much everywhere.
If only people could forget the past and hope for the future instead... The world would be such a happier place.

KSDale03 In reply to I-D-S [2008-08-09 10:57:21 +0000 UTC]
Because the more modern we get, the easier we forget what people are capable of. They were surprised at what Germany did back in 1944, thinking that is was such a modern age of time. The further you get into the future, the harder it is to accept that people still do inhumane things to their fellow man.
π: 0 β©: 1
I-D-S In reply to KSDale03 [2008-08-10 10:09:12 +0000 UTC]
You have a point. So how is it that the media mostly ignores the ongoing conflict in those random countries in Africa? There are plenty of inhumane things being done there. News coverage? Celebrities complaining about paparazzi seem to be more important. *sigh* What is the world coming to?

Ever listen to Nancy Grace? All she does is talk about things that don't really affect people, but nothing about laws and politics that DO. I hate her to death, but I know it's just because of her producer too.
I think people care less about Africa than China is that China is making money, lots of money. Africa doesn't really make anyone money unless it's in the blood diamond or firearm business, and even some drug dealing. China is able to mass produce large amounts of anything, and everyone knows it, but they find that the way of life there is so harsh and controlled. My grandparents would have never known about some of the Earthquakes that happen in China, nor about the killing of the American Coach if it wasn't for her telling them. The fact that China is a major player in the global market, but uses it's military and political powers to keep it's citizens under control is very threatening to any idealist.

I'm an idealist!
That capitalist Ogliarchy across the Pacific looks pretty threatening, don't you think?(Referring to America)
...For now, let's just ignore the fact that I also live in a capitalistic ogliarchy. Um, moving on, nothing to see here, nothing to see.
You're right, though. I'm going to have to copy all the comments you made for that deviation in case I get a debate on that topic.

It seems like I caused quite a stir by simply replying back on someone elses comment, I mean just look up a few parents for this and you'll see that I caught a whole bunch of people, and eventually just started to ignore them because they were become pointless circle arguments.
By the ways, I live in that capitalist Ogliarchy, and while we may be threatening, I think we have a chance of breaking up into a series of rebellions should our country go way to far outside of what we originally stood for.
π: 0 β©: 1
I-D-S In reply to KSDale03 [2008-08-12 09:00:36 +0000 UTC]
Lol. I'm good at making pointless circle arguments. I spend about half a hour a day making them with my friends.
That makes sense, considering the relatively loose weapon restrictions there.
Sometimes I wish I lived in America. If I did, I would probably have a few homebrew RPGs sitting behind me. Maybe a stunpulse sidearm.
Basically a ionizing laser that allows electricity to create a tazer-like effect.
Talking about rebellions, If America's Army is any indication, any U.S. Army forces are screwed. Weapon jams always happen at the WORST possible moment.

It cause we won't go with the better German models. H&K makes way better guns than whoever made the M16, and even improved upon the M16 idea. But really, I would love if America were to adopt the Australian AUG or the French FAMAS. Of course, you can't beat our Abrams tank, unless you have them. I'm not too sure about the Navy, but I think we have a pretty powerful one, but that could just be because most of my family is either in or has served in it As for the airforce, that's pretty equal on all sides until we get the F-22 Raptors.
