Description Recently I bought a copy of Games Workshop's White Dwarf magazine because I was interested in all those little warhammer models.
They're pretty interesting, so I decided to make one based off the Eldar series. In hindsight it seems I've got a few details wrong as I was using a really small picture as reference. I also don't own a single minature so I don't have a good idea of how the Eldar are supposed to look. (It never occured to me to look them up on google...*facepalm*)
I was really doing this to see if I can make things on this small scale.

Now all I have to do is paint it...

Made with Super Sculpey polymer clay
Dimensions are 40mm high and 25 mm wide at the base.

Holy crap! I thought this thing was a couple inches tall. Great work. How do you sculpt that small? That just sounds like madness to me.

might want to be careful dude, games workshop has a history of ripping people new ones for this type of stuff. not saying it will happen to you, just saying be careful. they viciously protect their intellectual property like its the bible, and quite frankly arent afraid to run someone who isnt even a threat under the bus just to make a point.

Haha, getting sued by Games Workshop is not something I want to happen... Thanks for letting me know.
I've just read their legal page on IP and it looks like I won't be running into any trouble solong as I don't start selling/casting models based on their designs. Which is fine by me, as I have no intention of doing so anyway.

alright just wanted to make sure. sometimes they dont need legal ground to sue, they do it cause they have the money to and you dont and thus crush anyone in their path.

Very nice sculpt! It looks very much like the Eldar models back in 2nd Ed 40K. Although the current models are nice, it's still nice to see a new sculpt that reflects the older designs.

About 5 years on and off, however I've only started taking it seriously in the last 2 years or so.

I have a question. How do you prevent the sculpy from breaking after you have finished your model? Every time I make something this size, the feet snap off the legs, and the gun would break off, and I can't stop it from happening. Do you have any tricks to stop sculpy from becoming brittle once it hardens?

Lace-and-Metal In reply to beeg [2012-03-25 15:14:30 +0000 UTC]

It's the nature of the material. Build it on a small armature, or coat it with a protective varnish to lend extra strength. <3

Thanks, I'll try making my armatures bigger to compensate.

WOW. reminds me of late 70's/early 80's Eldar. Nice work

Impressive result, given the chosen material! Did you work on an armature, or is the entire structure just Sculpey? This definitely has the look and feel of an early 80s GW sculpt, which gives it a powerful nostalgia factor for me.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I did use an armature, but it was a fairly simple one.

nice idea. Though if you're doing Lyanden defenders you may consider making them look more wraith-boneish warriors kinda like a toned down version of wraithguard. Fits with their storyline.

Thanks, I'll definitely be looking at making another Eldar warrior with proper armour. I don't actually play Warhammer you see...
