Description SPOILERS!!!

Greater love has no one than this: than to lay down one's life for one's friends...
~John 15:13

These two have gone through Hell together.

These two are my favourite (aside from Arctic) in Darkstalker because they were two characters that didn't seem all that important. Fathom, originally famous, becomes an outcast because of a circumstance beyond his control. His own sister turns against him. He loses everyone else he loves, to murder. And he can't even find it within himself to hate the dragon who killed them...because he knows he lost his soul and it wasn't really him... Fathom the outcast, unable to be loved by anyone. His entire kind want him dead...even his own sister... But one dragon comes with him. A dragon who had everything to lose in siding with him...Indigo, the loyal friend who gave up everything to be with him. She gave up literally everything.

As if it wasn't enough the first time when she tried to save his life by launching herself at Albatross...even though she had no powers of her own. She had no chance really, and she  almost lost her life for him.

Then again...as a wooden statue of a Seawing carved by Fathom's own claws. How insanely cruel of Darkstalker, to use Fathom's own talons, given as a gift, to betray him and entrap the one he cared about most. There's something very disturbing about Darkstalker's mind.

I love these two because they were background characters. They weren't important. They weren't soulmates. They were just victims of a terrible circumstance, but in direct contrast to Darkstalker and Clearsight, they are the couple that could pull through anything. They were the couple who put love above all else, even their own lives. While Darkstalker was busy manipulating his relationships to hold onto his power, Fathom and Indigo stand out as a stark contrast of those who gave up all they had out of love for others, putting others above themselves time and time again.

Two dragons that weren't important, yet had what was most important-love- made the biggest difference.

That's absolutely beautiful.

1 Corinthians 13:13
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13

13 If I speak in the tongues[a ] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b ] but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails.

***

Finished Darkstalker. I whipped this up really quick (2 hours) so please no critiques. I literally rushed through this as fast as I could since I started it at 11 pm. It's 10 minutes till 1 am now.

And I'm crying...

This scene kind of just broke my heart.

~From Wings of Fire series, Legends: Darkstalker.

SPOILERS!!

I was actually a little disappointed that Indigo wasn't aware the whole time. I was hoping she would break into a tearful smile when he brought her back, throwing herself into his arms. I imagined that she was there, aware, the whole time, watching terrible things unfold, knowing the truth, in despair, unable to tell the one dragon she loved most the truth about Darkstalker. I'm disappointed she didn't even know.

I love how you did the tears on Fathom's face, it really captures his pain in this moment in the book.

Question: do you mind if I put this picture up on the Wings of Fire Wiki along with other pictures that are considered canon in the book? It'll display that you are the owner of the picture, and it'll be under the fan art category.

Nice drawing, your art skills are over mine - nice work on that tone! But the wings are overall looking a tiny bit mangled, and odd. I like your art, I hope I see your art grow and look even better in the future!

I agree, my wings can always use some improvement. I'm quite new to drawing dragons so the wings seem to be what I really need to work on. Thanks

Hello - this piece is absolutely stunning . . . and when you connected it to first Corinthians (which I spoke in my wedding vows) I started crying. Fathom & Indigo had one of the most steadfast and unbreakable bonds of all the WoF pairs.
I would love to feature this piece in my next video about Fathom - (I'm a composer and I write original music featuring fanart - I'm not sure if I've asked you for art before but here's my body of work www.youtube.com/playlist?list=… ) I always fully credit artists and link to their DA site. I would love to include this piece - it sums up everything that is beautiful about Fathom & Indigo. <3

Thanks! Glad you like it so much but...I would prefer if you didn't take God's name in vain to praise me. It's kind of contradictory for me, you know, 'cause I'm  being praised at the expense of the Person who gave me the ability to draw and it makes me feel guilty. ^^' Thanks though, I'm glad you like it so much.

Thanks, although I think it would have been even more heartbreaking if Indigo had been aware the whole time and had been watching everything without being able to scream for help. Personally I think that's what should have happened...then when he brought her back she would throw herself into his arms crying in joy...that's how I would have written it anyway...

I was a writer before I was an artist, but yes I do. And thanks! I like to be really dramatic with my stories. Personally I  think I'm better at writing than at drawing, but I often have a hard time with inspiration these days so I draw more than I write (though it used to be the other way around when I was younger).

I also have this:

aprilsilverwolf.wixsite.com/le…

I'm not published or anything though. I've held back from publishing after working at Indigo and learning the dirty truth about how most authors are treated like crap so I've just been like...dreams crushed.

Oh wow that actually looks really interesting!! Aw YIS same, not that I'm much of a writer though hehe. Yeah that's the thing, my writing ends up sounding like wings of fire . I think your drawing is amazing, and I'm glad I watch you so I can see it all ^^.

Whoa really? That stinks, I didn't realise ;(. You should do it anyway, don't let anyone get in your way!

I just know that writers get the short end of the stick in all situations. They are at the bottom of the food chain even though it's their stuff. Authors get paid hardly anything (unless they strike it big), and it's all thanks to giant companies like Indigo and Chapters. I just could not believe how disrespectful those companies are to the publishers. And the publishers respond in kind to taking it out on the authors. I took some creative writing at university and my teacher explained that most authors could never make enough money from writing to support themselves and that most authors still have other part time jobs. The only way to write full time is to strike it big, which is every authors dream. It's a crowded Market. Since you actually make hardly anything from selling books because the publisher gets most of the profits. Therefore they are the ones who can change your book at will, pick the cover, run the show, anything to cover their costs, and as usual, the author has to play along even if they don't like it. It's not entirely the publishers fault either because it's actually Indigos fault. Indigo makes the publisher pay for all of Indigos mistakes. I was one of the employees that was part of it. I watched other employees stuff books into shelves that have no room. Some always get wrecked in the process. Want to know who has to pay for that? The publishers. Because indigo is a freaking monopoly and makes everyone else pay for their poor treatment. I know how expensive printing costs are never I took graphic design and print technology in college. So publishers have to fork out a lot of money just to get those books in there, and that doesn't include how much it costs to edit things (mine costed me $2,800 to get it content edited and that's actually the cheapest. They can go up to $10,000 for editors). It's insane. Plus all the graphics and publishing. Books are an insanely expensive business. Do you want to know what happens to all the books that never get shelved? They shred them. I watched it happen. I did it myself. It was my job. I shredded books and got paid for it. The publishers wanted us to shred everything we ever had if it didn't sell. The reason why is because shipping is so expensive that it's actually cheaper for the publishing companies to have them destroyed rather than do something else with them. And they refuse to give them free because then they'd never make any sales. So they just destroy them. It's just so disrespectful. I was appalled. Couldn't they at least let the author take her books back, I'm sure the author could find something to do with them? I know I would be pissed off knowing dozens of my books were being shredded just because they didn't sell in a month. Indigo is so crowded with books no book gets a long shelf life and more and more get shredded. Every week we shredded. Small book stores are going out of business. Out of all of this sit the writers on the bottom, completely helpless as to what happens to all their hard work, because indigo dictates everything, the publishing companies have to take all the money to make up for that, and authors are left with not even making half the money per book. By the time they money makes it to them, they only get their tiny little royalties, which doesn't even add up to a full paying job. #Thanks Indigo.

Dreams crushed for me. It makes me too angry to ever want to be part of it. To have others step all over me like that and control everything while i sell my soul to them. I've read some self publishing books and they say that you can actually write for a living. You don't need to make as much off your books as your do if you go the traditional publishing route BECAUSe of all the crap I just explained. There are downsides to that too, for example, most of your sales will be in Ebooks, not prints. Which I think is disappointing for most of us, but at least that's your money that you worked for. I've looked at both sides and neither is ideal for me. That's way I'm kind of stuck in a stalemate. There are so many dead ends. I'm not really a business savvy person either. It just overwhelms me and so i just... Kind of put that dream on hold because it just exhausts me to even think about it. I'm almost to the point where I want to try both and then compare and see whats more worth it to me. I have another book I finished, a shorter one, that I may try sending to a publishing company just to see how that goes. It's a book that isn't a baby to me so it's my test experiment lol. Now i just need someone to give me some tips on it before I send it off. No one has read it except me and it hasn't been edited so...I can't afford another editor lol. Line editors are cheaper but content editors REALLY make a book worth reading... For a price...

Anyway sorry for the rant. And thanks, I'm glad you like my gallery so much

Wow so you've actually worked for indigo, I'd never even heard of them. That actual,y sucks XO. That's good that you've sent in another book though, just to see how it goes, but that is a difficult situation. And all that time spent writing those books. ..... damiit. No no it's fine, it's good to get an insight into what actually happens in these places. Hehe Yw.

AprilSilverWolf In reply to AzaleaFire [2017-01-05 17:53:25 +0000 UTC]

REALLY?!! YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF INDIGO?! You've heard of Chapters right? It's the same company. Chapters, Indigo and Coles all belong to the same company and they're pretty much the only giant bookstores Canada has. I know the USA has Barnes and Noble (which we don't have) but I doubt they're any better to be honest.

Oh right, sorry. You live in Australia. What bookstores do you guys have down there? I'm not sure if the whole publishing industry is nearly as bad in other countries, I don't know if they work the same way or not, but I know it's not good in Canada or USA.

Lol I got an editor for $2,800, and that was back when the USA's money was worth less than Canadas (now it's the opposite) and so I actually got a REALLY GOOD deal! I have to say that I will not be hiring an editor again until the USA goes back into decline lol. I could be waiting a while.
