Description
Clefairy are aliens, right? So they must perform alien experiments.
I spent my entire childhood blissfully believing that Venonat evolved into pale, horned Venomoth and Metapod evolved into bug-eyed Butterfree, and that this was the natural and proper order of things. Then I saw some sprite comparisons that shattered my happy world. I am now completely unable to look at Venomoth or Butterfree alongside their preevolutions without feeling deeply shaken. Somewhere along the way, something here went dreadfully wrong.

FUCK, thats way creepier than i have EVER seen Clefairy portrayed.
What if THEY created Deoxys?

Vector-Master In reply to Jolbucley [2016-06-22 07:38:26 +0000 UTC]
From what i know, Deoxys was the DNA of a extraterrestrial species of pokemon of that was brought through space on a meteor and emerged when that meteor crashed in pokemons version of the antarctic.
Also...considering that both Deoxys from the movie have a core that is essentially a crystalline stone, they generate a form around it, can change that form at will, and retreat into/are reduced to their stone form when to greatly damaged....They are REMARKABLY like Steven Universe's gem species.

The ceiling of their... ship? reminds me of the second form of Lavos from Chrono Trigger. Also, I KNEW there was a reason I didn't like Clefairy...

the bio-major in me wants to complain about the inaccuracy of your title.
To start off, gene splicing is nothing to fear about, your body cells do it all the time.f
Try using the word "transfection", instead.

Hmm. This is interesting, thanks for pointing it out. I just spent some minutes Googling the terms and I don't think I read far enough to understand the details of transfection, but it does seem like that would be more likely to lead to mutations than artificial splicing of isolated genes. But I did see the term "gene splicing" used frequently to refer to artificial, rather than natural, processes, so would I be incorrect in thinking that it can still be used when talking about genetic engineering?
I am willing to change the title for the sake of accuracy, but I would rather not because then I'd have to explain it in the description, and I don't feel like I understand the processes well enough to do this myself--and I generally prefer to have titles that the average person will understand immediately. This picture was never intended to be a realistic depiction of biological modification, so I feel like the title should get a pass if the knife-wielding pink space aliens do.

Butterfree seems based off a Cabbage White butterfly, but I used to always wonder why it had a bit of Venonat look to it. But I'm still pretty sure it was always intended that Metapod evolve into the real Butterfree, and Venonat into the pale, horned Venomoth. Because Butterfree actually looks more like a real butterfly, while Venomoth has more moth-like traits.

actually, originally it was supposed to go: caterpie, metapod, venomoth and venonat, butterfree (though the names would be different.) but for sum stupid reason they changed it and left us all wondering!

But wasn't Butterfree based on a Cabbage White? it looks like it so does Metapod (looks identical to a cabbage white chrysalis) and Caterpie looks abit like a small cabbage white catapillar I honestly think they should be how they are D;

I've dabbled in this theory before. I believe something did go wrong in the designer's numbering or SOMETHING and we ended up with a convoluted evolutionary line duo.
Awesome pic, too, by the way. Creepy. <3

Yeah, I think that's what happened too. And they make no attempt to cover it up... in Gen III they even gave Venonat and Butterfree the same Ability, Compoundeyes.
Thanks, glad you like it!

I'm in the same boat as you --for years it was totally normal for Metapod and Venonat to evolve into Butterfree and Venomoth. Then I saw a similar thing and just...it blew my mind! I gotta say though, Butterfree DOES look like a butterfly and Venomoth a moth, so they didn't get the names mixed up. They totally should have switched the colors and the basic looks though (eyes, antennae/horns). They totally screwed up there! XD Maybe they were high? Ya never know, then again some of those Pokemon...
Anyways! I got a kick out of your picture! Clefairy doing experiments (cause the humans are clearly too dumb to realize this mutation! D:<). Oh yes, I imagine this has happened or will eventually happen. All of your Pokemon look adorable Although Metapod looks a little wonky
Maybe he's been in there too long! D: haha
<3 It's great!

aquanut In reply to lizardlea [2011-07-27 18:45:16 +0000 UTC]
Haha, yeah, sometimes it seems the Pokémon designers aren't too careful about their work. I think Venomoth's resemblance to an actual moth is debatable, though; Venomoth looks rather like a swallowtail butterfly minus the clubbed antennae, and Caterpie looks a lot like certain types of swallowtail butterfly caterpillars (such as this one [link] ). But the names don't matter too much in the end; the original Japanese names for Venonat and Venomoth aren't similar the way the English ones are and don't seem to relate to moths, so the English translators may have just thrown in the moth references to confuse us.
Anyway! Thanks for telling me you liked the picture! (Yeah, the Metapod's probably starting to turn into a preserve at this point. )
Thank you again!
