It is recognized as a symbol of longevity. If its shell has algae on it, that Wartortle is very old. The tail becomes increasingly deeper in color as Wartortle ages.Wartortle is my favorite Pokémon. When I was a little kid, someone gave me a five-inch Wartortle toy that cost five bucks. Being completely obsessed with Pokémon at the time, for the next few years that toy went everywhere with me—to the park, on camping trips in national parks, you name it. These days I keep him out on my desk alongside my collection of Nintendo figurines. He’s a mess after being dragged all over the place—he’s covered in dirt and the fabric he’s made of is all ripped up—but I like to imagine him having aged the way it’s described in the PokéDex entries.

Aww! I've never been much of a fan of any of the second evolutions (they're not as cute as the first and not as awe inspiring as the third), but Wartortle always was one of my favorites. Maybe it's just because he's an original pokemon... Maybe it's just me, but the fourth generation pokemon really seemed to be sliding downhill at an alarming rate. I think they just ran out of ideas...

I love the Squirtle evolution line! While Squirtle is my all time favorite pokemon Wartortle is a close second. This image does the pokedex entry a great deal of justice and I'm sure you worked hard on this piece.

The predominantly orange backdrop contrasts beautifully with the blue of the Wartortle. Very nice backlighting effect, too. And I love the brush you used for the clouds, it gives them a very soft and muffled feel.
I really like its triumphant expression, too--like it's saying "I'm old and PROUD".
