Beautiful character! I really love how well the colours go together! But I also thought (as the person below me said) how it is possible she is a vegetarian? Animals can't really choose what they eat, it's more of "how their mouths and body structure" are evolved... *shrug*
π: 0 β©: 1
Araless In reply to Bahamut285 [2011-05-13 03:48:39 +0000 UTC]
It's not impossible it's a fantasy creature and in her race they're are all omnivores. Some only eating meat and some only fruits, herbs and stuff. And I've even seen some dragons who're vegetarians. I'm not the only one with that idea.
π: 0 β©: 1
Bahamut285 In reply to Araless [2011-05-13 22:21:59 +0000 UTC]
I know that, which is totally fine. I'm just commenting on the fact that if Skyheart's species are omnivorous, she should have an omnivorous beak shape so she can eat properly. The beak she has currently looks that of a falcon which is a carnivorous species.
It would be pretty silly if somebody had a dragon character with enormously sharp teeth and was a strict herbivore...but a dragon character with flat teeth that is a vegetarian is much more plausible. Just because it is a fantasy creature/animal doesn't mean it has to be a creature that is impossible to exist. The more natural, the more believable

ONE MUST NOT DEFY SCIENCE
π: 0 β©: 1
Araless In reply to Bahamut285 [2011-05-14 14:34:24 +0000 UTC]
And science must not defy fantasy.
π: 0 β©: 1
Bahamut285 In reply to Araless [2011-05-17 00:35:34 +0000 UTC]
Science doesn't defy anything...even in fantasy there have to be rules, especially when it comes to animals. Everything on an animal has a purpose, whether it be for mating purposes, eating, fighting, etc. It would be completely ridiculous (once again) to have a brightly coloured animal that is brightly coloured for absolutely no reason. It's bright pigmentation had to have evolved from somewhere, whether it be for mating purposes or (like in frogs) to display a warning to predators.
Fantasy is fine and all, but adhering to science makes it more than just fantasy, it makes it a believable fantasy that transcends all that silly made up stuff that little kids invent.

Araless In reply to Bahamut285 [2011-05-17 06:56:03 +0000 UTC]
Well I don't think so. If we are talking about science in fantasy.... that would mean that there shouldn't be fantasy creatures AT ALL. How could vampires exist or dragons? Dragons wouldn't be able to fly at all because of their body size, weight and they couldn't breathe flames. Vampires are living dead creatures, what is completely ridiculous itself... dying in sunlight and all. That wouldn't make any sense. But they are still very popular creatures, right? So if you are talking about creatures have to make sense in EVERY way than there wouldn't be any fantasy creatures at all, even the word fantasy would't exist. I can understand your point but people have different opinions and so I have mine. I won't change my creatures because the nature in our world wouldn't allow them to exist. They live in a different world with different natural laws. Of course it would be stupid if there are cats that could rip an animal apart that's 20 size bigger than itself. But that's really extrem and I don't think that much people invent such things.
Hope you understand my point, too. I think it was a nice conversation but I don't really want to explain myself anymore^^"
And sorry for my not so perfect english

Bahamut285 In reply to Araless [2011-05-17 21:14:48 +0000 UTC]
I understand your point and I very much enjoyed this conversation as well. Also, I think your English is beautiful considering it is not your first language, I can't admit I can speak any other language that I have learned at school at the level of your English. I am most certainly not asking you to change your character, that would just be rude, I was just simply offering some advice to make it somewhat more believable so you can see it closer to existing than staying purely as some fantastical creature that will never ever exist. The adjusting of mouth-parts is certainly not a drastic change, nor am I forcing you to change it.
As for Vampires, yes the fantasy part is the whole living dead and dying in sunlight. However the science behind vampires is that vampirism is a disease. A person who is a vampire drinks the blood of others to obtain haemoglobin, which allows a human's blood to transport oxygen around the body. Vampirism is seen as an auto-immune disease in which the vampire either cannot produce haemoglobin, or the body attacks and destroys haemoglobin. The answer for dragons is that there is a "golden ratio" if you will, that takes into account of the wingspan size vs. the mass of the object. For example, you can take your average horse, apply the ratio and find out that a Pegasus perfectly capable of flight will need a wingspan of approximately 7 meters (23 ft). Of course certain adjustments like bone density and muscle mass must be taken into account, but I see most dragons don't really need more muscle mass that they are already perceived to have.

Thank you, I'm still learning Yes, that's true. I usually like logical beings more. But I also like totally weird and fascinating non-existing creatures as in final fantasy. Skyheart has a story why she refuses eating living beings that's why I won't change it, cause it would change her character and I just can't do this. It is indeed untypical for her breed to not eating meat at all. There are fruits in her land that she can easily eat even with her beak and herbs. My gryphons are really different, her brother only eats meat and her sister eats both. (It's most common for them eating meat and a bit plants, like canines, bears and stuff) I wanted to draw a family picture for a long time but I don't have the time for it now... I have to draw so many pictures but I can't finish them ^^"
