Marianne, Princess of the Light Fields, was enjoying herself immensely. Not, of course, that you'd know to look at her. The fairylike Whistie stood rigidly, catlike eyes narrowed and one hand propped on her hip. She looked irate.

"Where I go and with whom is absolutely none of your concern, Sir Roland," she scoffed. The emphasis placed on the male Whistie's title was meant to remind him that she still outranked him despite his more recent political machinations.

"Sorry, sugar," Roland drawled in thinly veiled condescension. "The King intends to cooperate with the Empire until they can refuel and get out of here. So for the foreseeable future, he's made me their liaison."

A hint of Marianne's amusement leaked out for a moment as a predatory smirk cut across her face. "And how's that working out for you, Roland? Getting all the respect you wanted?"

"Not likely," the shadow at her back growled. "Not if th' Other Princess's information is accurate."

The human woman standing between them absolutely did not smirk, but her tone was light. "Look at his face. I'm right."

Roland winced, briefly marring the hologram, and attempted to continue as if he hadn't heard them. "Now, far be it from me to badmouth a princess, Princess, but you oughta know your human friend there has been into shady business. Treasonous, murderous business."

Now the shadow looming over the two women lunged forward, revealing an angular creature not unlike a tree come to life -- Leia was reminded of fairytales her parents had told her when she was young, of a time when the trees spoke to humans on Alderaan -- and sharp claws gripped the holoprojector.

"Princess Organa isn't in Dagda's territories, knight," he growled, "She's in mine. The Dark Forest belongs tae the Bog King and his line. If ye or yer new Imperial friends want a word with her, ye'd better be prepared to lead them here yerself!"

"And mind how you go about it," Marianne affected a bored tone. "Tensions between Goblins and Whisties have been on such a hair trigger lately and war is such an ugly word." Her eyes brightened. "Bye now!" And before another word could be spoken, she'd shut down the holoprojector.

"If the Empire is involved, he may well take you up on that war," Leia warned, crossing her arms.

"Let him," Bog snorted. "This forest is old, and angry. It has no love for outsiders -- save our Tough Girl here and a few of her kin -- and I've seen it pull ships from skies when it had a mind to."

As he spoke, the chilly, claustrophobic feeling that Leia had felt upon entering the forest returned for just a moment before loosening once more into something more bearable, like a cool embrace. She decided it was better to ignore this and not ask questions. And she certainly wouldn't bring this up to Luke later. Heaven knew they were busy enough formulating a plan to rescue Han from that bounty hunter. If Luke wandered off to explore and angry forest that might be Force sensitive, who knew what might happen?

"I notice you didn't mention certain...upward changes in rank?" Leia said instead, nodding towards Marianne's white gown.

The Whistie snorted. "Of course not! I want Roland to be present when he finds out I'm the Queen of the Dark Forest!" Her smile turned sharp. "I want to see all his ambitions crumble in his eyes."

Bog nodded sagely. "Though she be but little, she is fierce," he remarked in a decidedly laconic tone.

"A short joke?! Well excuse me, we can't all be animate trees, Pinecone!"

This devolved into a round of playful bickering that sent a pang of loss through the lone human in the room. No, they would get Han back. They would have to.
