Envoy was enhanced by alien nanotechnology as an immune system for the earth against anomalies that, if found or exploited, could cause tremendous damage or even destroy the planet. An alien race had decided that life bearing planets are just too rare and precious to lose to anomalies and thus Envoy was created. Envoy's alien nanotechnology gives her superior resilience, strength and reflexes. She can't lift a car nor can she move like the Flash, but she's stronger than the strongest man on Earth.

The nanotechnology also link her to the Pendulum, an alien artifact that landed on Earth millions of years ago, whose aim is to keep the lifebearing planet safe from mysterious anomalies. Envoy is basically its instrument. But she retains full freedom of thought.
