Description
Gonna try putting out GIFs and such of WIP stuff for the hell of it. I could not get the GIF to be any bigger then 500 frames, so had to drop it to 15 fps and cut off 6 seconds. Sorry about that. If you want a 30 fps video version, I can do that as well; just didn't see the point.
This is animation I have been working on for a video that has been in the works for far too long now. I only need to do some small hair refinement on this bit and I think this model is done. Still have a ways to go to completion, though. (completed now; link below)
The actual camera angle for the shot is not what the GIF uses, so the back mane looks a bit unnatural at one point, but that is because you aren't supposed to see it. Also, the eyes were un-derped here, but will be in the final. I had to play around with where the eyes are looking depending on the angle to make it look like she is looking where I wanted her to. Made it interesting
All hair, tail, wing and ear movement was manually created or refined. Jeez that takes forever.
Animatic for this portion created a while back: [Link to video]

I was planning on that kinda being the next tutorial I do, but haven't got around to planning it out. It was surprisingly harder to plan for than others lol.

I still think these Source pony models look more creepy than anything, but this is great, fluid, realistic and genuinely touching animation.

There's a major problem I found,
...her eyes are not durp.

The majority of the final video had her from purely a profile view, so it was easier to control eye motion if it was the standard eye positions. Derped eyes only work when both are visible.

Well you could use this to make a game, or mini movie, game curtsenes, because the animation is very good for this.

I usually am not very fond of SFM animations - but this, this is jaw dropping-ly amazing. You have so much attention to detail it is crazy.

How did you do the animation on the wings? Isn't that the closed model?

argodaemon In reply to KieDough [2014-01-15 03:51:07 +0000 UTC]
The bodygroups are swapped in the middle there. The motion blur hides the transition.

Are we looking at the same animation? What motion blur, I'm talking about how each feathers moves independently yet I thought that was only possible on the open wing model. Is that just jigglebone?

These are the VN models. The V3 versions didn't have the articulation of the VNs.

I use the VN models. I don't think you can even pose the face on the V3 models. I'll have to look into this more, it's a great effect and you pulled it off beautifully
