Description
“COME ON!!! THAT WAS A THREE COUNT, REF!”
“HIT ‘EM WITH YOUR FINISHER, JO!! YOU’VE GOT HER ON THE ROPES!”
Ariane pounded the apron, frustrated at the third kick-out of the night at what had to have been a three count.
It had been roughly a week since the incident at the Coolidge farm. Ariane had spotted Cimar standing in the doorframe, waiting for her when she’d arrived, and immediately beelined for him, spending several hours alone in the shed, as Joanne meandered about the ranch, eventually finding her way to the cowgirl’s gym. The redhead had returned a few hours later, eyes a bit puffy, but with a grin on her face.
“So…*sniff*...you ready to train like you’ve never trained before?”
“Why?”
“Because Cimar booked you a match next weekend against Molly Whippit, so y’all are gonna need to be in the best shape of your life, kid.”
That had been a week ago, Ariane thought, as she watched Joanne now grappling with a brunette that looked like she’d eaten nothing but steak and potatoes since the day she was born. “Come on, Jo! Use your speed! Don’t grapple her!”
The warning came a bit too late, as Joanne tried to dart around, while maintaining a grip with one hand, only to find out that Molly wasn’t letting go.
At least until she swung Joanne around enough to make her airborne, before tossing her back into Ariane’s corner. The young woman landed with a thud in the corner, energetically shaking her head before looking at her friend and mentor.
“Come on, Joanne. Use that speed! You’ve got this!”
Ariane gave Joanne the best smile she could give, firmly believing in her heart of hearts that her friend could win her first, real, wrestling match. Joanne kipped up and jumped to her feet, while her opponent with her back turned, pumping up the crowd.
“Reverse Frankensteiner!” Ariane said, loud enough for Joanne to hear and not her opponent. Her trainee rushed towards her opponent, jumping up high enough to sit on her shoulders, before falling backwards with enough speed to rip Molly off the mat, slamming the larger woman’s head into the apron with a mountainous “THUD”.
The redheaded cowgirl whooped and hollered, rallying the crowd to Joanne’s side as the young woman started making a comeback, blitzing her opponent every time she stood. Training with the hay bales always helps.’ Ariane thought with a chuckle. ‘Even if ole Daisy hated it, and Shanna seemed to enjoy it, it always helps out. Heck, even Brittany and Emily thanked me…a couple of months after going through it…’’
The Country Cowgirl had pushed Joanne to the extremes. Strength exercises in the morning before breakfast, speed exercises until lunch, and wrestling theory and practice until sundown. She’d been her sparring partner, and Cimar the coach, and Ariane’s heart brimmed with joy as Joanne absorbed everything like a sponge.
Another kick-out momentarily brought her back to the ring. She clapped her hands. “That’s alright, Jo. Keep up the pressure!”
Just as Joanne was circling a slowly rising Molly, the lights flashed in the local gymnasium used as the arena. “What in tarnation? Who’s messin’ with the lights?” Ariane glared towards the back, curtained off area where she knew the sound guy was stationed. She didn’t want to leave ringside to figure this out, as she noticed Joanne’s focus being lost by the odd strobe effects.
Then Unnecessary Violence blared through the speaker system, and Ariane’s face turned as red as her hair as Kassandra and Kayla Kruel walked through the curtain, their faces emotionless as they stared ahead at the ring.
Vagabond had arrived in Sioux City Iowa.
—---
“Eyo, what the hell is going on around here?” Kassandra said in a voice so eerily similar to Mike Muir, one could swear that Suicidal Tendencies were about to play one of their hits.
The crowd, which had cheered on both wrestlers, went silent momentarily, a mix of anger and respect on their faces as Kruelty waltzed towards the ring. Their nonchalant attitude was palpable as they walked just on the outside of the ropes like they owned the place, pouting their lips and making faces of disapproval and discontent.
“Molly, Molly, Molly … “ Kassandra said, tapping her fingernails against the ring apron. “What do we do with you?”
Ariane’s face assumed a darker shade of red if that was even possible. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
Kruelty ignored her as they continued to circle around the arena. Their gazes darted between Molly and Joanne, who had interrupted their fight. While Jo’s face showed nothing but confusion, Molly’s expression became pale.
“Your task was simple, wasn’t it?” Kayla added. “Look at this bikini model pretending to be a fighter. And you’re struggling with her? What would you do against a real wrestler?”
Molly swallowed, but didn’t respond. Joanne however, stepped forward. “The fuck are you staring at?”
A murmur went through the crowd. Not many people dared to address Vagabond this way. Kayla tilted her head.
“Good question.” She said. “I think I’m looking at some bimbo who got here by showing off cleavage instead of wrestling skills.”
“And y’all haven’t showed off an skill in any of the matches you’ve been in!”
Kruelty paused, both turning at the same moment, until they faced the cowgirl striding towards them. Ariane stopped merely a few feet from the two redheads, turning her head barely towards the two women in the ring. “Don’t worry, Joanne, I’ll just have a little chitchat with these two clowns who don’t know a suplex from a lariat. Y’all win this match. I believe in ya, and know you can do it.”
Kassandra cocked her head slightly. “Oh? Are you sure about that, Country Hoe? If I’m not mistaken, aren’t you the loser who got beaten down by Zukova, and have lost more of her recent matches?”
Ariane grinned. “I remember that match much differently. Zukova needed to call in reinforcements with how much I was tannin’ her hide. And the title belts sitting above my fireplace tell a different story.”
Ariane chuckled as she turned towards the ring, again, barely noticeably so, to watch Joanne hesitantly resuming the match again against Molly. “I mean, you two only got your titles because Krusty won’t let you face anyone with any skills since Brittany and Emily whooped on ya.”
The two redheads scowled. “A fluke,” they said in unison. “They will be crushed soon enough.”
“Hahahaha!” Ariane made to wipe at her eye, wiping away a fake tear. “Oh, ya sure you two ain’t comedians? The only crushing happening soon will be when Olivia gets her hands on you two.”
—-----
This time, the two looked at each other and smiled. It was a cold, confident smirk, as if they had exchanged an inside joke.
“Don’t you worry, she’ll get what’s coming to her.” Kassandra said. “Now, Molly, would you please show this rookie she should stick to pole dancing? We’ll have a word with her coach.”
Hearing this, Jo turned towards Ariane, forgetting about the match, but her friend signaled her to stay with a simple gesture while keeping her eyes fixed on Kruelty. “Focus on your match, Jo, I got this covered.”
“Are you sure? It looks like -”
She was interrupted by Molly, who charged shoulder first into her. Both women flew into the corner, with Joanne’s chest trapped between the turnbuckle and her opponent. Disoriented, Joanne reached out in front of her to grab Molly, but the brunette already made her move. Putting one arm around Jo’s shoulders, and the other around her thighs, she bent over and laid the Scandinavian over her upper back.
“That’s more like it!” Kruelty shouted in excitement. “Break that skinny bitch!”
Molly pressed down on Joanne’s legs and neck as she stood in the middle of the ring. However, Joanne’s reaction surprised everyone. Instead of screams or groans of pain, or even signs of strain and struggling, her body arched effortlessly, bending into a C-shape. Confused, Molly loosened her grip, seemingly thinking what to do next as her plan had failed. At that moment, Joanne suddenly tensed all her muscles and shot up. Wrapping her arms around Molly’s throat, she placed her feet between the brunette’s shoulder blades, then jumped, violently yanking her opponent’s head backwards.
—-----
Outside the ring, a staredown between Kruelty and the Cowgirl was ongoing. Ariane has her legs apart, arms folded across her chest, glaring down on the two shorter wrestlers. Being taller than most women had its advantages…while having a kick that could concuss a cow and a hook that could KO a horse were bonuses. She stared down the two Kruelty members, making sure that they wouldn’t be able to intimidate Joanne any further in the ring.
“For being tag champs, I haven’t really seen you in a match against anyone but newbies. Have you faced anyone with more than a week’s experience in the ring yet?”
No reaction from Kruelty.
“Figured as much. You two ain’t all y’all are cracked up to be.”
The two looked at each other and grinned before replying together. “At last we aren’t a washed up has-been like yourself.”
Ariane raised an eyebrow. She recognized they were goading her, yet, part of her relished the idea of teaching these two a thing or two.
DING DING DING!
The bell rang behind Ariane, signaling the end of the match. Kruelty smirked.
“Aren’t you going to look behind you to see your friend lay defeated and weak on the mat?”
Ariane chuckled. “Don’t have to. I know she’s still standing.”
“AND YOUR WINNER…JOANNE!”
Ariane grinned. “Told ya.”
Both members of Kruelty frowned before again replying in tandem. “Then we have a lesson to teach in the ring…”
The two took a step forward…
Ariane took a step back…just to launch that same foot straight under the chin of Kassandra Kruelty. The kick rocketed the champion off her feet and into the air. Before she had even landed, her sister was charging forward, leveling her own punch at the cowgirl.
A cowgirl that was itching for a fight.
For so long she had seen Vagabond messing with her friends. Mocking Daisy for months now and nearly ending her career. Going after Shanna…Joanne…Brittany Banner and Emily Spirit. It wasn’t often that her fury raised her hackles, yet Ariane could feel the burning desire within to teach Vagabond a lesson.
Starting with these two.
Tanking the punch, though admittingly seeing stars as it landed flush on her nose, Ariane stumbled backwards, only to find her footing, reach out and grab Kayla by the throat.
The move visibly startled the pale-faced redhead, stunning her just long enough for Ariane to give her a grin.
“See y’all in hell.”
And with that, Ariane let out a guttural roar as she raised Kayla into the air by her neck, the shorter woman struggling and clawing at the cowgirl’s arm, only for her to be SLAMMED down in a massive chokeslam onto her barely now rising sister.
The move left both laying on the mat around the ring, the audience’s attention finally moving from within the ring, to the action outside. Kassandra tried to push her nearly comatose sibling off of her, only for a double booted dropkick to hit her flat in the face, smashing her hard enough the kickback dropped the back of her head onto the hard basketball court wooden flooring.
Ariane kipped up, letting out a bellowing “YEEEEEHAW!!” as she flexed her arms at her sides. She looked up at Joanne, who stared at her, mouth agape.
“Wha…what did you just do?! Why did you do that?!”
“They deserved it. Also it was fun.”
Joanne slid out of the ring, looking at the two redheads laying on the ground, stirring slightly. “You’re…you’re crazy aren’t you.”
“A-yep!” Came the reply, the p popped for extra inflection. The cowgirl strode by Joanne towards the ring, at the same time reaching into her pocket and retrieving a card from it. “Hey, Molly!”
She looked into the ring to see the groggy woman sitting in the center of the ring, looking both fearful and shocked. “Have this, and take my advice. Don’t get involved in Vagabond. It ain’t worth a hair on yer head.”
With that, she expertly flicked her business card into the ring, the paper sliding to a stop in front of the wrestler. Smiling warmly at the beaten wrestler, she turned and waved for Joanne to follow her. The pair had made it near to the back of the gym towards the curtain separating out the backrooms from the audience, when a pair of haunting voices echoed throughout the room.
“We are not done with you yet.”
Ariane turned to see both Kruelty sisters standing ringside, looking as fresh as spring daisies. Nothing even hinted at the fact they had gotten their asses kicked just a moment ago. Joanne tried to hold her back, but Ariane took two steps towards them regardless.
“Back for round two?” She asked, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
Kassandra smirked. “You know, now that I think about it, this might be the first smart thing I’ve ever heard you say, cowgirl. I think it’s high time someone taught you a lesson. In the ring, this time, no foul tricks or surprise attacks.”
“Funny!” Arianne chuckled. “Normally, that’s totally in your wheelhouse.”
Kassandra ignored that remark. Instead, she grabbed a microphone, so that everyone could hear her. “We challenge Ariane Jones to a tag team match, in an arena of our choosing, two weeks from now. Are you going to accept or run with your tail between your legs like the coward you are? Maybe you’re not ready to -”
Ariane clenched her fists and shouted out as loud as she could: “ I accept!”
The entire arena went dead silent. Even Kruelty looked at each other as if they hadn't expected such an answer. Their expressions of surprise were soon replaced by their trademark smug grins, however.
“Oh, but I forgot!” Kayla cackled. “You don’t have a tag team partner.”
Ariane looked at Joanne, and before she even said anything, Joanne nodded.
“Well, turns out I do.”

Looks like Ariane and Joanne are in for it now. Was that a smart thing that Ariane did to Kruelty? What tricks do they have up their sleeves? I guess you'll have to find out in Part IV!!!
