As someone who's never watched IZ before, I did enjoy what I saw of the movie! C:

The old animations have not aged well (if you want to check any out, the first episodes of each of the 2 seasons are generally considered the top 2).
IZ:ETF felt like it captured what the original series wanted to be though, which is perfect.
(And that pizza-eatin' donkey!

I think one of the impressions I got from seeing a few things on the original series was that it leaned towards gross-out humor or just generally icky imagery? That's always a deciding factor for me in whether or not I'll actually enjoy something haha. I'm very squeamish even when it comes to cartoons lol
ETF still had some of that grungy/dirty feel to it in small increments but it was tolerable, imo :0 I do feel like they did a wonderful job updating the character designs while still fully retaining the charm that the original had! Mega props to the creative team on that one!!

And ETF really zeroed in on the stylistic flare, I think! Lots of zany colour palettes and such that felt like the style looked. The humour was the same though, and it worked really well with its new visuals!

I really agree!! The color palettes and set designs in the film were absolutely gorgeous (those deep purple and magenta hues good lord). I'm such a sucker for well-implemented color theory and that movie was certainly a visual treat ;0; Animation was smooth and fluid and worked so well with the art direction so yeah I'm likely gonna give it another watch at some point because I really did enjoy the creative approach it had with the visuals :'D
Out of all the things tho that could've been "off" about the new designs, that's really not too much of a change! Which is really telling of how well they redesigned the characters overall :0
