Vision: The overall concept of a feline grass starter pokemon that is not too complex in design permits the artist with a lot of flexibility for the evolutions. Further, given that the concept is simple enough, secondary typings can easily be added to the next evolutions.
Originality: Whereas a strength is in the simplicity of the design, it lacks the originality that depicts a grass typing. Specifically, the leafs on the face seem to be inserted on the design without meaning. Granted, the idea behind it was clever, as it mimics whiskers, the outcome does not seem to portray what it was intended. Furthermore, the patterns on the fur seem to be disconnected (e.g., the tail versus the limbs) which also makes it too generic when replicating the 'big cat' patterns.
Technique: Although the coloring was well coordinated, the design lacks in basic shading and highlighting skills. There should be more of a contrast between the darker areas that need to be shaded (e.g., back leg and under belly). Furthermore, the highlights in the design do not depict an accurate reflection of fur. They seem to be more spot lights, which is usually intended for more sleek surfaces. Adding a few fur highlights and riffles on its body would add to the realism. The highlights on the eyes should also be adjusted (the white spots should be on the same side of each side, not opposite sides). Furthermore, lineart can be modified. The uneven paw lines (i.e., front paw), and the thick lines within the leaves on its whiskers can be thinner. Also would recommend erasing some of the ends with a low opacity eraser to get the blended affect. In addition, remove or erase lines not needed (e.g., on the teeth).
Impact: Overall I thoroughly enjoy the design. The concept behind a feline grass starter is clever and the colors were well thought out. Moreover, the pose and the gaze of the feline speaks to the artists' creativity. I look forward to seeing the evolutions!

The first design was too goofy and didnβt feel pokemon-y enough for me.
