Alright! Thank you so much! I've been wating to join this challenge for awhile now but I thought all the slots were filled. Glad to see I was wrong.

Now as far as the challenges go, since I'm late do you want me to pick my own flag, flower, tropical fish and butterfly? Or will you assign me pictures or...?

You are always welcome !

I think for the flag you can take the one of Uruguay since it is not likely to be made by other person anyway, plus it suits your model.
As to the other rounds, you can find inspiration yourself. I am curious about what you will choose!

Let me know when you decide on the model .

If I were to choose between 22 and 25, I would probably choose 25, because her hair is of one colour. Two-coloured hair is rather difficult to recreate every time. I used it for that model because I wanted to get the 'coppery'' look. On the other hand, you are not obliged to recreate this hairstyle every time, so it may be even not that difficult .

More beautiful models with wonderful outfits! I actually quite like all of them this time! The warm and sort of regal, eastern style of the 22nd, the elegant and natural style of the 23rd, the obviously eastern and graceful style of the 24th, the curious appearance and exotic swimsuit of the 25th and the 26th is what I would call a classic Nordic beauty, once again.

Arrelline In reply to DeeryDeerth [2016-08-23 10:46:40 +0000 UTC]

Thank you . I am very glad that you like them!

This model is inspired by a character of Andre Norton's novel "Zero stone'' and its sequel "Uncharted stars''. She is a representative of an ancient race, one of Forerunners. She spends the most of the story in the form of a cat-like animal, and her true self is revealed at the very end of the second book, when she is transformed into humanoid, with yellowish skin, goldy eyes and long dark copper red hair cloaking her naked figure... I tried to get the colours as close as it is possible in this game (but chose light brown for the eyes, because yellow looks too weird), and added some clothing.

This model is inspired by Estella, one of my "Book of Lives"'s OCs, and the outfit should remind of a XIX century ballgown. I was pondering about yet-unused swimsuit colours and recallled of this yellow-green one. And immediately thought of Estella, because any kind of warm yellow/green is definitely her colour. Plus her maiden name is Applegrove (and since her father was a commoner, some of her mother's arrogant noble relatives referred to his family as ''rotten apples''). Estella herself is a wonderful and strong character, actually I even think that it is she who is truly deserving to be the protagonist of the story, because she suffers and regrets more, and she does not get a true happy end.

This came out as the result of combining of two seldom-used facial features, thin eyes and straight eyebrows (you cannot really see them, but they are the same as at the 25th and 26th models). This is obviously something eastern, so her outfit is inspired by the ancient Chinese porcelain vases.

Another image inspired by a character from Andre Norton's book (she had incredibly creative and vivid imagination!). This one is from a book "Forerunner foray'', a character called Vintra (or somethiong like that), she is said to have bright blue hair and tanned skin, and belong to some tribal culture, so I experimented with her outfit to get that ''exotic'' feeling.

This model has got another still-unused hair colour. And then I had a hard time choosing the colours and style of her outfit in order to avoidresemblance to Barbie, Aurora and other famous blonde characters. The one I settled on, reminds me of something winter, or of polar lights, and for some reason about the clock, probably because with the rhomb detail that I added, her thin neckline looks like a clock hand. She reminds of a Nordic beauty too (as well as of the character from a weird old story of mine, about a girl who was meant as a sacrifice for one of Nordic gods).

You're welcome!

I can see that a lot of your creations are inspired by Andre Norton's works... it is curious. I should really pick up a novel from them sometime. And this model should certainly resemble the character you described... the hair looks great, and even though you didn't use yellow for her eye colour, her clothing still creates a feeling of a golden glint in her light brown eyes. I really like this one's style for that!

Her swimsuit is a bit reminiscent of a ballgown, yes. It's also interesting to read about your characters... but I suppose I will learn a lot more once you'll release a story about them one day.

I usually use thin eyes to emphasise a more "glamorous" look because I like how elegantly the eyelashes are drawn for these eyes... but this model really looks eastern, perhaps because of her hair colour and style. Her swimsuit sure does look a lot like a Chinese porcelain vase though!

I suspected this one was inspired by one of Andre Norton's characters... maybe because of the model with the dark skin and white hair. This model looks a bit like her, but they both look exotic, of course.

I see! Her swimsuit reminded me of something celestial as well... and I like the subtle, sparkling details. That old story of yours sure doesn't sound like one of the happier ones, though...

Arrelline In reply to DeeryDeerth [2016-08-23 18:58:51 +0000 UTC]

Yes, one of the things that I especially like in her books is how bright and diverse are the numerous characters she invented and described. As to this doll, yes, I tried to ''warm up'' the picture with yellow colour in her outfit.

Estella is a very lively and optimistic character, with a lot of ''life force'', rahter stubborn and self-confident, but also reasonable, clever and witty, and noble-hearted enough to be able to sacrifice her interests for the sake of other person. She is known for ability to cheer up and encourage other people, and the general air of her image is light, that is why both of her names are connected to the light - Estella means ''a star'' and Lucy comes from ''lux'' meaning ''light'' in Latin. She is known as Lucy in this journal .

I suppose it is the combination of thin eyes, dark hair and that fringe what gives her an eastern look.

Indeed. Although in the book, her skin is said to be just tanned, like a thick natural tan on fair skin. While the character with white hair has black skin due to the natural pigmentation.

Yes, it appears that grey, cold blue, violet and white make a nice combination, and the sparkles give it a bit of magical feel.
As for the old story of mine, please do not worry, it ended well (it is me after all!) . The Nordic culture just gave me an excuse to make a blonde character. But actually it could take place in any ancient culture where there were any gods being worshipped, and the more exotic, the better. Anyway, it is a short story about a young girl living in a village. Her mother died when she was young, and she did not get along with her stepmother, so she grew up lonely. A nice and gentle person, she did not make any harm to anybody, but for some reason she has not been liked and her help not appreciated. She made no friends and was considered ''strange'' because she liked to meditate about the things which would never come into the heads of other people. Misunderstood and despised, she was destined to be alone... So, after all this does not sound too happy, does it?
As she had grown up, she turned into a young maiden, probably too skinny for a classic beauty, with not entirely regular features, but still graceful and nice enough to be considered attractive by local young men. However they only offended her with degrading offers of illegal relationship, since their relatives would not approve a marriage with ''that wrong girl''. The only man who did dare to propose to her, was the local priest's son, selfish and arrogant but handsome, ''the most popular boy'' in the village, who got attracted to her because of her ''unusualness''. He was not a good person, so she rejected him. He threatened to arrange that she would be chosen as the next sacrifice for one of the gods, but she said that she would rather die than marry such a cruel man, so he kept his word. For a small digression, this is rather not typical for my stories, where a man, how much vile he would be, is not able to do any harm to the lady for which he has soft feelings. But everybody knows how easily love can turn into hate...
Now, back to the story, where there is actually a little to add. After all the ceremonies she was tied to a pillar in the sacred place, and left to die. People knew that the gods come at nights to take their sacrifices, each in his own way, as it was evident from the body being found at morning. One god took the lives stabbing them in the chest and it was considered as ''clean death''. Another god was said to drink the blood of his victims, since their bodies were found plae and with slit throat. The third god did not demand a sacrifice for many decades, so nobody knew which fate would expect his victims, but everybody was sure that it is something even more horrible. People were frightened when the priest had a vision about that the third god required a sacrifice, and relieved to learn that it will be that weird maiden, whom nobody would neither need nor miss.
Here starts the weirdest part. The god appeared and said that he has never been as bloodthirsty as the other gods and never approved the custom of sacrifices. He told how in the old times, when the sacrifices were regular, he had to pretend killing his victims by leaving a pile of ashes at the altar, that people would think they were burnt to ashes. But instead he secretly transported his ''sacrifices'' to other part of the land where they could start their lives anew. Then he just tired of pretending and stopped requring scarifices as he thought the two other gods would be more than enough to worship to keep the people's beliefs.
But, he said, it was a bit different this time. It was because of her that he demanded a sacrifice after some many years, and he figured that she would be chosen. He felt pity for her miserable lonely life, along with admitaion by her pure nature and gentleness. He offered her a choice, to start a new life in another part of the land, or to become his spouse and a goddess and help people all over the land. She chose the latter, partly being touched by his kindness and partly fascinated with the idea of helping other people without being insulted back.
She just declared her choice and was freed from the ties when they were joined by the priest's son. It is not quite clear why had he come there. The most favourable reason could be that he felt remorse for his decision and came to give her the ''clean death'' rather than let her die a horrible unknown death as a sacrifice. Although considering his character, he was hardly able to think of someone except himself.... However the god said that the priest's son is the man towards whom he definitely does not feel pity because the one who takes part in a murder other than for self-defence, does not deserve to live. So the god killed him with a lightning, which also burnt the wooden pillar of his altar, so in the morning the people would think that the sacrifice is taken...
And then they two flied, away from all the sorrows of her past life, and forward to the new future, unknown but promising to be a better one...
Well, here is that story, a weird one just like I said.

I see! So Lucy/Estella's (not sure of the order of the names) the character from the story you asked questions for! She does have a quite interesting personality. It's also curious how you attuned her names to stars and light. It's a really good combination!

Yes, that is pretty much what I meant.

I see what you mean with the characters' skin colours, as well. Thanks for informing me.

 Definitely agreed on this one!
Oh haha, the happy end is quite a relief, since it is you! And I really appreciate you for summarising the story for me! Dare I say, I actually quite like the plot of this story. I think it has some potential to be a good story - it sort of reminds me of a fairy tale. Probably because you mentioned that it takes place in an ancient culture and it's an era where people still sacrifice things to gods. Gods are supernatural, so it would only make sense that it's a fairy tale. I actually think it's quite interesting in its own right... but then again, for some reason, I love most stories that are related to supernatural things and gods.

Also, sorry if this reply seems short... I carefully read everything you wrote. Buuut after all, you told a story, so obviously I can't really reply anything as long to the story...

Estella is her first name and it is how I call her. And it made easy the choice of the image for the story's carnival, she was the Queen of Stars.

Well, basically it is a fantasy, or a fairy tale if you please. Also it still has a certain air of sadness in general, despite the happy end.

DeeryDeerth In reply to Arrelline [2016-08-25 14:39:18 +0000 UTC]

I see! And it's quite funny... you've recreated her carnival outfit and I've admired it before... yet I still couldn't remember the character itself, nor draw any connections to your other references of her. I guess I really can get confused easily...

Indeed. But I suppose the air of melancholy comes from the girl's harsh past and how she was sentenced to be a sacrifice to the gods. That is a dark theme in itself.

Arrelline In reply to DeeryDeerth [2016-08-25 16:13:16 +0000 UTC]

Actually I think it is because of me. I post anything related to my OCs and stories rather infrequently. Plus I have not posted any decent stories about them, it is no wonder that usually other people do not know anything about them at all .

Quite correct .

DeeryDeerth In reply to Arrelline [2016-08-25 21:14:03 +0000 UTC]

Well, I can't argue with that... you do post things about your characters and stories at different times, and you also have so many characters, not to mention their long names... it's hard to keep track sometimes.
But I suppose that if you should develop your stories or unravel them more here in deviantART someday, everything will be clearer and your characters will be even more memorable.

But what is about another challenge? Is is because of a lack of time or of ideas?
How about those: outfits based on uniforms, based on the look of several materials (leather, glass, silk, wood...), based on historical styles

Well, were just a few thoughts. I would be glad to see the next round soon.

Arrelline In reply to Eolewyn1010 [2016-08-22 17:57:13 +0000 UTC]

Thank you . I am glad that you like them!

This model was inspired by one character from a fantasy book, a descendant of an old alien race, she spends the most of the story in the form of cat-like animal and takes a humanoid shape in the very end. She is described as having yellowish skin, goldy amber eyes and long dark copper red hair wrapping up her naked body like a cloak. I just added some clothes .

The outfit of this model was inspired by one of my OCs and mid XIX century ballgowns.

This model is inspired by another fantasy book character, that had bright blue hair and tanned skin. She is said to come from some tribal culture, so for the outfit I tried to invent something exotic.

I was afraid that with this hair colour, she would look too much like Barbie or Disney's Aurora. So it was hard to find some different colours and style for her outfit.

Also, about the next themes for the challenge. Well, I believe actually I was the first person who chose the theme of flags for the challenge, plus it is combined with olympic spirit. I personally find it rather interesting and educating. It may seem different to you of course... So are you going to make a design for this round?

As for your suggestions.
What do you mean by uniforms? I mean,of what kind?
Historical styles is what I would be happy to choose as a theme! I was pondering over it for a long time by now. I only fear that perhaps it would not be as interesting to the most of other people as it is to me.
Different materials sound interesting too.

Huh? I totally missed this... Maybe there was a bug, I didn't get the message that there was another round. Alright, on it!

Uniforms like, military uniforms of different nations and times. Greek and Byzantine uniforms from 19th and 20th century are quite interesting, for example.

Ah well, probably. Bugs happen from time to time on dA too. Anyway, I will be very glad tosee your design .

That is what I suspected you would mean. Military uniforms. But you know, while it is definitely an interesting subject and all that, I will never pick it as a theme as I try to avoid anything connected to military/war theme.
