Before he could finish his question, the entire world seemed to flip as Cody felt himself get yanked upwards. In the blur of sudden motion, he felt something lifting up on his body, and he saw the rest of Team Misfits getting lifted up along with him…

…and then, before any of them really knew what had happened, they were crammed together in a net of vines and spider webs, hanging from several strong tree branches.

"Reshiram and Zekrom above, what the heck is this!" Lisa yelled as she started to thrash about in hopes of getting down.

"Hey, cut it out! That hurts!" Ryan yelled at her.

"Can you guys keep it down?" Isola said in a whisper, her eyes wide with fear. "If there's this much here then-"

Cody was so used to being thrown around by Lisa that he practically didn't even feel inconvenienced by the netting; he simply grabbed ahold of the side to keep from laying on Isola, making her even more uncomfortable than the large pokémon already appeared to be. "I think it's a bit too late for that," he said. "The whole valley will have heard us by now. I mean, what with Ryan and Lisa-"

"Ah-hah! Caught you!"

The team looked down to see a group of pokémon running up; the pokémon in the lead, a galvantula, was the one who had just called out.

Once the group was near the net, the galvantula sparked with apparent satisfaction. "We already caught your friends, so there's no use struggling, you jerks!"

Ryan frowned. Or, rather, he frowned more so than he already had been in response to Lisa's struggles. "Friends? But we-"

"You idiots had better let the four of us down right now or I'm going to beat you all so hard that you'll move up north just to get as far away from me as possible!" Lisa yelled at the top of her voice, clearly infuriated.

"Ha! Like that's going to happen!" Galvantula said. "You guys deserve this for trying to mess with our valley right after we kicked out the last group of troublemakers!"

"DESERVE IT!" Lisa said, struggling so strongly that even Cody felt it on the opposite side of the net. "You pompous magikarp had better start apologizing, or I'm going to-"

"Just shut UP already, would you!" Cody shouted to Lisa. "Obviously there's been a misunderstanding, and-"

"You want me to beat you up here and now, Cody?" Lisa interrupted. "I'd be more than happy to oblige as warm up for taking care of these trap-using losers!"

In a barely louder-than-usual voice, Isola piped up, "Maybe we should all just calm down and-"

"Don't even try reasoning with them now, Isola," Ryan said. "Neither of them are going to listen to reason now. They're overreacting."

"Have I mentioned that your fur smells really bad when it's practically shoved up my NOSE, Ryan?" Lisa shouted. "I'm practically passing out now! This is NOT overreacting! Bathe every once and a while!"

In mock horror, Ryan replied, "I take offense at that, my dear Lisa! I bathe at least once a year! You just happened to catch me in spring when my usual bathing season is summer."

Isola sighed. "We must sound like such idiots," she murmured, just loudly enough for Cody to hear. Cody grinned as he forced himself to calm down. Annoyed though he was at Lisa's yelling and the current very cramped situation, things could be worse.

I could be the one stuck with Ryan's tail in my face, after all, he thought, chuckling a little.

Isola saw him laughing and smiled a bit herself; like Cody, she had guessed that they were hardly in any danger, and so she had no real need to be worried. For the moment, at least.

"Um, everyone, do quiet down for a moment! I'm afraid we've made a mistake!" a pokémon from below yelled.

"About time you realized that!" Lisa said as she and the rest of her team glanced down at the one who had spoken, a deerling who was standing next to Galvantula.

The galvantula turned to the deerling. "What are you talking about, Emma? They're obviously the pokémon that those other brats said were coming!"

Emma shook her head. "The other three were ground-types, weren't they? Don't you think these pokémon would be, too?"

"But they're even threatening to attack us!" Galvantula argued.

"Well, we did trap them in a net for no good reason, didn't we?" Emma said, smiling.

*********************************************

Had the penciled-in art finished before today. And I liked it. The background was sort of plain and the perspective was a bit off and Cody looked a bit weird, but it was good otherwise. Emma and Galvantula especially came out well.

Then... I realized I needed to actually draw the net. Specifically, those Arceus-forsaken webs. lasjf;la ksj fd;lasjd;fl It was that terrible. So I stopped really trying at that point. And then I went and did the inking/outlining, and screwed up my otherwise gorgeous deerling and galvantula, both in the outlining itself and the following smearing of ink... And that's when I stopped caring, slapped the rest of the colors on that I hadn't done already, and called it good.

********************

I really, really want a drawing tablet or something. I just feel like it'd make a lot of things so much easier, and (maybe) speed up what little improvement I've managed so far. I've been thinking about getting one for a while, but I didn't want to invest in one until I was sure that I wanted to keep on trying to improve and keep up these drawings... And until I had a job, so that the $100 or so investment wasn't completely stupid. I think I'd be up for it now... Though I'll still probably wait a while. If I can't improve with traditional media, than hoping that I'll improve using a table is probably wishful thinking.

In the event that I do get one, does anyone have any suggestions as to what model I should get? Right now, I'm looking at the Bamboo Capture, since it seems to fit my needs without being as insanely expensive as other models... But then again, I'm not sure.

Is it just me, or does Ryan look happy to be stuck in the net?

I totally understand what you said about wanting it to have the net close up and looking down on Emma and Galvantula. That's how I pictured it in my mind when I was reading it. ^_^ Your writing style seems to be very animé-stylized, and that's a style I'm quite familiar with.

Ryan sees everything as a joke, so yeah, I imagined him a bit amused by the situation.

And now that you mention it, I do have a bit of a tendency to write with an anime mindset, with how I set up scenes and such. It's interesting to see how that sort of thing can affect completely different interests like writing, don't you think? (I think it's interesting, at least. ^_^)

Yeah, it's pretty cool how well it can translate over. When I write, I always feel like I'm writing in the style of the last book I read. Like, if it were turned into a movie, this detail would probably be left out, but I leave it in, anyway. Maybe that's why I always get so long winding when I'm typing casually? xD

Oh trust me, since you're dominantly a writer, DO NOT GET A TABLET! I am because I've spent that last 6 months practicing with photoshop (without a tablet) and only now I'm good =__= Plus, I've read in reviews for tablets it's really complicated to draw nice, straight and smooth lines :/

And also, with a tablet you need photoshop to go along with it and all that other weird stuff! And honestly, I find it sometimes easier to draw traditionally rather than digitally! I

I'm getting a Bamboo Wacom one, though it is pretty DARN EXPENSIVE (I've been saving up for ages TT^TT)

but on the plus side of Tablets, you can have more easier shading/smoother coloring! And you also have access to layers as well!

ANYWAYS, just practice a while with photoshop before doing anything. 'Cuz if you can't use photoshop, your tablet's pretty much pointless

PS: I think you did a pretty darn good job on the nets! c:

Oh, and practice with traditional of course! That's wherre all your talent and experience will come from! :3

I'll definitely keep on practicing before I get a tablet... But I wouldn't practice with photoshop before then, since it's kinda expensive and it comes bundled with it, anyway. I mean, the main benefit I think I see with getting a tablet is easy erasing of any mistake and greater ease of coloring, which would speed things up immensely. And in the case of this pic in particular, the webs and net would have been so much easier - rather than color everything while doing my best to avoid the the webs (which I never outlined, since they didn't seem solid enough to deserve that), I could have just drawn the pokemon regularly, THEN drawn the webs and vines on top of them. With colored pencils, you can't do that. Especially not with the color white.

But as I said, I'll be waiting for a while yet. I do think I'm improving a bit overall, though, and I'm finding out that I really like drawing quite a bit... So eventually, I'll probably decide that the investment is worth it. But not quite yet.

Oh, I hate it when the inking step ruins the original pencil sketch. And smearing... Happens all too often. I blow on the ink periodically while inking to hasten the drying process. And I have another sheet or paper towel or something placed between my pen hand and the drawing so I don't smear the ink with my hand. So problematic!

Still, I think it looks great! The webbing looks fine, though I assume coloring around it was painful. I'm not too sure on Emma's and Kara's sizes though. Are they in the background maybe?

I've wanted a tablet too, mainly for the speed of output and amount of work that could be cut. As for the model, I have no idea.

And for the chapter... Things come together! I absolutely didn't expect a fourth human! And one with all her memories intact too. And even more mysterious, one from a different time. I got really excited when Cody realized that Emma was dropping hints for him. Given Kara's opinion of Max, I wonder what would happen if they discover that he was human as well. I doubt that she would approve of him congregating with Emma. And then there's Vulpix, who has no memory whatsoever. It would certainly be interesting. And this paragraph is all over the place...

As with other Team Misfit chapters, I found myself chuckling quite a bit. From Cody's attempt at whistling to Ryan's and Lisa's assertions that Cody is a liar or crazy, there's lots of little humorous things sprinkled throughout. And I like the arrogant phanpy; the image is cute!

And then the end. The realization that returning to being a human would mean leaving the team--a classic part of PMD for sure! Very fitting that this is included in the friendship-themed character's storyline.

Yeah, Emma's and Kara's sizes were messed up because I sort of screwed up my perspectives... My idea for this picture was to have the net way up close and then looking down on them, so that they'd be smaller... But I ended up looking at everything from the side because I wasn't really thinking about it, apparently. So it didn't work out like I was hoping.

I can't wait for them all to come together and figure out that they're all human. It'll be... Interesting, as you said.

And I had a lot of fun with this chapter, from the shouting in the net to the "William ShakeSpearow" comment (which I thought was very witty). As time goes on, I'm just loving this team more and more... And I'm so excited for their next chapter. Much hilarity is planned.

Ehehe! Thinking about it, I'm having trouble imagining a spearow acting Shakespearian, being the somewhat rough pokémon they are.
