Description I don't know why these are so much fun for me. I guess when I am giving my hand a break from drawing and my writing isn't going well, I just end up channeling my 'creative energy' in really random ways...
may remember my Dragon Age one?

And since I always use references, I like finding faces to match with them... so quite a few of these I had already gathered, some I took from other people's suggestions, and some I didn't come up with til I realized I wanted to make this list. ^^

Fortunately, this takes place in the land of make-believe, so we can ignore the extra years and/or weight some people have accumulated, which might interfere with achieving close likenesses, which was difficult enough to do, anyway. (You may notice the list is rather incomplete; I will certainly add to it if I come up with any more!)

SAJANTHA: Elizabeth Olsen

ever since I saw Martha Marcy May Marlene , I knew I had found my character! I've actually been modeling all my paintings after her the last couple years (whether or not you can tell, haha).

IMOEN: Renée Felice Smith
Saw her on an episode of NCIS: LA and it immediately clicked; she's got the same energy and everything. I've used her as one of my face models for Imoen.

GORION: John Pyper Ferguson
I love this guy. I have seen him popping up on a few different shows, and each time I am totally mesmerized by him. I don't know if he just has a lot of charisma, or if it is only my own tendency to root for the 'bad guys', but I think he does a great job portraying an amenable 'nice guy' with an underlying threat to him, which is how I imagine Gorion: as someone that comes across as warm and kind, but with a sort of subdued danger... like even though he has retired from the Harpers, he still could be formidable if provoked; he'll do what he has to do. Not that Sarevok gave him much of a chance to show that off, sigh. xD

EDWIN: Gary Oldman

There is really no one else properly qualified. (Even if we have to travel back in time to his villain-typecasting-days of the 90s! )

JAHEIRA: Olivia Wilde
This one was really tough. I haven't come across anyone that really fit her, but I saw this suggestion by someone else, and physically, the resemblance is certainly there! And she also has no problem with the attitude. I think it's just because she is so 'recognizable' or 'mainstream' or something that it makes it seem a little strange; I don't doubt she could pull it off, though.

KHALID: Shane Carruth
He was actually the one that made me put this whole thing together. I was watching Upstream Color last night while I was working, and thought "hmm..." because I am constantly looking for sources to use for things. (I love Netflix; I get to take screenshots of everything to keep. <3)

MINSC: Ray Stevenson
Saw this on some other casting discussion. Haven't seen him act, but he certainly fits the portrait + size (at 6'4")!

DYNAHEIR: Kandyse McClure
She has a wonderful exotic but practical look to her. If that makes sense at all. I saw her in Hemlock Grove, and found her very interesting. And at 5'1", she kind of fits the shorter Rashemi model!

ANOMEN: Karl Urban
I may have just been looking for somewhere to throw Karl Urban. <3 This seems like it would work rather well, though.

KELDORN: Sean Bean
This one was actually really hard. I feel like Sean Bean might be too 'obvious' or something. I mean, he could certainly do it, no question! But it seems kind of too typecast or something, haha.

AERIE: Imogen Poots
She has a good combination of looking innocent with an elven vibe, although I guess you could get about any ethereal-looking ingenue for this role.

VICONIA: Bérénice Marlohe
I think she might have originally been a suggestion somewhere, but I don't recall for sure--I do know when I was combing through my reference collection (oh boy, is it huge xD), she stood out there. Definitely has that dark, seductive, dangerous look to her. (Although she's 5'9", which is rather tall for an elf...)

ALORA: Erin Way
I saw her on Alphas, and she is like the perfectly obnoxiously hyper cheerful/adorable that would really fit Alora.

AJANTIS: Sam Reid
I have to admit I haven't seen him act; he came up somewhere in my search while I was doing this. But he has that kind of look I associate with paladins. I'm trying really hard not to say 'pompous jock.'

NALIA: Olivia Hallinan
She has that kind of snooty noblewoman vibe going on.

VALYGAR: Naveen Andrews
Saw someone else suggest him. Have to be a younger version, though, but he does seem to combine the rugged/outdoorsy ranger-ness with the dignity of a nobleman.

SAREVOK: Vin Diesel
Regardless of any nerd crush I may or may not have, who else but Vin Diesel has that kind of physical presence and VOICE I mean, come on.

IRENICUS: Mark Strong
I was kind of iffy about posting this, since I feel like people tend to be the most opinionated/controversial about the villains haha, and I honestly hadn't thought of him til I did this list. I certainly can't think of anyone else, although he'd have to be younger (or wearing his mask, perhaps it wouldn't matter)... But he does really well with the quiet, cold intensity.

BODHI: Leticia Dolera
She has an awesome face. (I started a folder for her when I saw a poster for REC3.) She looks like she could pull off the beautiful psycho rather well, and with a bit of that 'elven' look, too.

TAMOKO: Jamie Chung
I think Kara-Tur is supposed to be based on Japan, not China, but I just really like her. First saw her in Once Upon a Time, but after watching Eden the other day (yes, I am almost always streaming Netflix when I get to work from home), realized she was quite a good actress, as well.

I'm sure I'll keep adding to this as the fancy strikes me... hope you guys find it half as entertaining as I did!

I know this thing is old but will Keldorn die in the movie if Sean Bean plays him?

That is like exactly what I was thinking.

SPOT ON with that casting. I'd totally go see this fan love fest. (In particular Dynaheir and Anomen, wowza! And I'd have never thought Olivia Wilde for Jaheira but that wold really make it.)

AWESOME list.

Ray Stevenson, Imogen Poots, Kandyse McClure, Naveen Andrews, Sean Bean, Karl Urban, Erin Way.... I'd give them the part today.
Olivia Wilde, too: she is perfect for Jaheira, but you have to consider her BG2 portrait, instead.

Gary Oldman would be perfect for the role of Edwin, if he wasn't outside the age range.
Same with Drew Barrymore for Nalia. I remember somebody on the forums suggested this actress who is basically a younger Drew Barrymore lookalike. I don't think it's the same one you suggested.
Vice versa, the guy you picked for Gorion looks too young and tidy for the part (dunno where that picture comes from, but Gorion is meant to be older, greyer... Elminsterier).

I really, really like Jamie Chung, but the go-to girl for these kind of Dragon Lady action roles is rather Devon Aoki.
images5.fanpop.com/image/photo…

The Bodhi girl looks just random, but I guess it's hard to find someone to match that portrait.
Similarly, the girl from Viconia doesn't strike me like a Viconia at all. Her facial features are too bold and strong, while Viconia's face is more delicate.
I also kinda imagine she'd have to be a natural blond woman, for starters. Before putting on the make-up, I mean.

You left out the most striking resemblance of all, though.
This was my suggestion for Skie on the BGEE forums...

Oh, and while I like your Imoen (another one that fits better with the BG2 portrait than with the BG one), I'm also stuck on this uncanny resemblance...

Gary's way too short for a Mulan though. I suppose cinematics could fix that. I mean since we're going to invent time travel for this anyway, anything goes right?
In all seriousness though this is flawless and I'm glad you posted it, because I'm horrible with remember actors and I don't really watch enough movies to know that many, yet I always like to have a "real life" version of characters in my head for fun.

Johdi May, Jennifer Lawrence & Anna Popplewell all strike me as better choices for Nalia, personally.

Thoroughly agree with Ferguson as Gorion, though I never would have thought it myself - nice call! Not keen on the idea of Aerie being in a Baldur's Gate movie at all though if I'm honest, haha. Aerie & Anomen can stay at home.

I love it! I don't care Sean Bean being typecasted, he should play the noble warrior character in every movie  worth watching .
However I would switch Leticia Dolera for Elena Anaya. Both of them are beautiful, spanish and Elena has already played a vampire in Val Helsing

artastrophe In reply to Cuendolin [2013-10-10 22:23:52 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yeah, I could definitely accept Sean Bean being cast in everything, hahaa.

As for Bodhi--I realize beauty can be quite subjective, so I'm not sure how best to explain it--not that I'm knocking your suggestion, or anything! Elena Anaya (aside from having an awesome name) is certainly attractive, and from what I recall of Van Helsing, I bet she could do a great job. (Kind of a coincidence they are both Spanish, I suppose? That's quite funny.)

And I haven't seen Leticia Dolera act (although she does have some awards, so I'm not *too* worried on that count, though you never know with the accents--not that it matters for the purposes of this project, I suppose xD), but it is more her appearance that I find compelling... it is something outside of a more 'traditional' or 'standard' beauty, like there is something a bit strange about it. So in addition to making her quite interesting to look at (maybe I am just weirder about examining people's faces since I paint them; I don't know. xD), I think it gives her sort of an 'edge' or something to playing a not-entirely-natural creature like a vampire and/or an elf. There's just something kind of intriguing or mysterious about it. Again, perhaps entirely subjective! I just find myself quite drawn to her face.

Cuendolin In reply to artastrophe [2013-10-11 04:02:07 +0000 UTC]

That is true, Leticia Dolera has a kind of beauty that is not conventional and fits well with a non-human being like an elf. I think it is hard for me to picture her like Bodhi because I have seen her playing this fragile and sweet girl roles (Even in REC3). I am kind of biased.

Uhm, maybe giving Bodhi a more mysterious and beautiful look suits more her character. That would give me a reason to choose her over the Shadow thieves because her original portrait always scares me

WHOA! look at all these BG movie casts!

Their faces really looks quite alike with the BG characters heheh, such a splendid  idea!

Too bad Wizard Of The Coast doesn't have the guts to produce a Baldur's Gate Movie...

Perhaps out of fear that it might end up the same fate as their Dungeons & Dragons movie franchise has suffered due to low reviews and such...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

artastrophe In reply to Theseekingseer [2013-10-09 14:15:56 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yeah, I don't think it would be a very wise investment, plus the rights are all tangled up between Bioware and WotC, so it would be a mess to sort out who owns what, and someone would have to buy the property or something complicated like that... and yeah, who knows whether it would even be able to make any money or not if they actually could make it.

In order to bring it to life in a way that would make sure to outshine that old D&D movie, they'd have to put in a lot of money to make sure they did it right--and it probably wouldn't be able to make back all of that money in the theaters (mostly because the old D&D movie scared everyone so badly/ruined the name).

I do hope someday we get a good D&D/FR movie, but it might take awhile before the public is ready for it... would be quite a lot of fun, though--and since all the comic book properties are being snatched up and turning into successful franchises lately, it definitely seems like there is a slightly better chance of it now than there was a few years ago, at least... xD

Well I'm suppose your alright about everything and that...

It's just hope for the best that someday they might make a good D&D movie entirely based on Baldur's Gate!

that would be quite a sight to see!

Actually, the more I think about this the more I see G.O. play Dekaras or a similarly older character. That thought came to me when I re-watched the Prisoner of Azkaban for a gazzilionth time. I really like his Blacky (may HP fans forgive me) eerie calmness of a mentor. And his little 'war' cameo in the Phoenix.

Also, VIN DIESEL FTW.
