Slavic expansion in the Balkans didn't give traces in the form of the local Slavic languages, because these areas have been subordinated by the Germanic tribes. Germanics who created their clotting state organisms, took over the local variations of Greek language in their settlement areas. Much stronger Greek-Germanic culture was assimilating Slavs, Avars and the Khazars.
