-------------------------

My images about the future are normally optimistic. This one has perhaps a mixed feeling, depending on your interpretation.

The titles comes from a poem by Lewis Carrol. It seemed appropriate.

This was, as always, rendered in Vue.

I like to use sand in my images. Here are some where sand takes an important part of the composition:

EDIT: wow, a DD! Thanks a lot to UJz for suggesting it and MoonBeam13 for featuring it. This is my 9th DD.

EDIT: please visit dandylion0505 and read his poems. If you follow my images, you'll understand why. Amazing...

Thanks! Yes, now that you mention it, I think you're right, it does have a similar feeling.

I like what you did to the moon. What is going on up there?

Thanks. I imagined a big city up there and those are the city lights in their night time. They're follow a round shape to be consistent with the craters.

Fantastic render and lighting, makes me think of the opposite of Stephen King's dark tower, more like the ivory tower, the last bastion of light in a drying and thirsting world that serves as portal to the amazing constructions now that civilization moved to the moon...as can be seen on the background and we realize the reflections are desert mirages. Also made me think of Dune...

Thank you. You wrote something very similar to what went through my mind when I was imagining this. Fascinating.

Is it a dream land desert sand or a vast ocean of interiority? For I can't really tell, it's beautiful to loose myself in this immense light, till the great vision of a sparklig magic castle makes me watch up to the sky and make a wish to that floating beautiful moon. And I really linger in the dream!

Like the persons' moon is able to express constrasted light between a center destination? It looks like a skill tree on the moon's crater.

Very beautiful i only dabled in mech 3d and never really got good with textures i studied in maya, though i have tried freeware but find it is difiicult to learn a different setup for making models. I know the feeling about those imperfections you have spoken of they can be a pain especially when polygons start randomly deleting themselves, i had a fun time with large scale models, i seemed to run into every flaw in maya.

I don't understand how creating artwork in 3D works, but if I've understood it correctly, would it be possible to spin around the view angle and maybe even see the artwork from the opposite perspective of which it was created to be seen from? How would that look? It would be very intresting to see, like a back-stage glimpse.

Anyway, I love your art very much. I've been "watching" you for years, although with a different user account. Thanks for showing us this fascinating, intresting, and beautiful world you create.

ArthurBlue In reply to jeijla [2014-06-23 20:24:25 +0000 UTC]

You understood it correctly but normally I optimize the point of view that I want to be on camera. One of the first things I do is to establish a viewpoint. It's too much work to build a completely consistent world 360 degrees if all I want is one still image. If I'd be making the environment for a movie, that would be different - then I'd have to think of all possible viewpoints.

This means that if I'd rotate the camera around in my images (or even if I'd move it nearer to the objects) you'd catch all the imperfections that I didn't take the time to polish.

But to illustrate the possibilities, below you have another viewpoint of this scene. I didn't change anything in the scene, just moved the camera around and took another snapshot (a low quality one).
I put the camera much closer to the city and much closer to the sand, pointing upwards and westwards. You see the moon changed the position relative to the city and you still see two of the ships. You also see now the intense glow from the sun. Fun, isn't it?

Thank you for the answer, it was very intresting to get a thoroughly explanation.

The new perspective of the castle was very beautiful! And how much fun to be able to change the viewpoint like that!

It is a pleasure palace, built by some insanely rich corporate prince. he owns roughly half of the plants land mass, and never visits the palace, spending billions annually on its maintenance. mean while on that moon in the back ground the corporation itself is set up with an entire mega city established around its manufacturing wing.

Awesome work! XD
