Another human colony in a far away world... I really like this subject. Here are some other images I made with the same subject:

As always, rendered in Vue.

I'm sorry, only now I saw your critique and DA is telling me "Notification expired: it is too late to accept or reject this!".
I would accept it if I could.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your time and for sharing your thoughts on this.
You did raise very interesting questions: what does it mean? what do I want to show?
The answer to the latter is: a place. I love to create places that don't exist, places that pop up in my head and some hours later, can "enter" in someone else's head. There's something magical about it.
The answer to the former is: it means the same as life - nothing and everything.

Hello, don't worry about the critique mate!
Oh, I see ... That's the answer I wanted to have!Β It's kinda cool, I guess! If I understood, you draw a place that popped into your head and that doesn't exist for now! A classical way to use creativity but you know the motto "Old but gold"!
Thanks a lot for the time you have taken to answer me!
Keep doing what you're doing! Just epic bro!

Thanks. And yes, that's just it, I just want to see on screen places that pop in my head. To be completely honest, that right there was my original motivation when I started doing my very first pencil sketches, when I was 18 or so. I had these places in my head that were screaming to get out. The media to do it has changed over time but the motivation is still the same.

At first I noticed the natural arches and wondered how they could have possibly formed from erosion, given that the shore scene here looks so tranquil.Β

If climate and weather patterns were the only factors, the geological formation would look unnatural and out-of-place. Β But we must consider that with two moons, occasionally they will align so that their gravitational effects produce strange and powerful tidal effects. Β Then the ocean rises up in fury and the atmosphere is stirred with tremendous cyclones.
Β
I hope the Virgoans have taken this into consideration. Β Perhaps they have, and their calculations of orbital mechanics predict calm conditions for the next thousand years or so.Β

I just had a great thought that you could capitalize on! All of your landscapes are rendered in 3D, so what if you could find a way to sell a copy of one to someone likes it? You could have it sync up with the Oculus gaming headset and they could Β wander through your worlds in relaxing bliss.

This is just an idea I wanted to share. I'm urging you to do it, and if you find a way to I'm not gonna come back and demand profit. Do with it what you like.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ArthurBlue In reply to deviatedone [2013-11-28 10:16:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for sharing your idea, that's very interesting! But to bring it to life I would need to "fill" in my worlds much more than I do - I normally only build the areas that I know will be visible to the camera view I chose in the beginning. And when I build more than that, it's normally with less accuracy than the rest (for example, plants and textures with less resolution). If I built everything around with the same accuracy, my computer would explode - one of my normal scenes, even with these optimizing tricks, takes normally between 8 to 12 GB of RAM. I would need much, much more RAM. I would probably need hundreds of gigas of RAM (and the software wouldn't probably be able to handle all that information).

But the main problem isn't even the RAM - it's the rendering time. The rendering of a single scene takes a few hours. So, traveling this world at a normal speed would be impossible - you move the camera a little bit and the scene has to render again, a few hours wait. So, to be able to travel at a normal speed, I would need to render in advance all the possible camera angles that the user will want. And that is just impossible...

Ah, I see. I'm sorry. I guess I should do a little more research before making suggestions like that, huh?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ArthurBlue In reply to deviatedone [2013-12-01 17:39:07 +0000 UTC]

No problem. If the software I use had a real-time rendering engine, like the new gaming platforms, your suggestion would probably be possible. Maybe in the future.

Well, I know where I'm booking my future holiday
Amazing work on this concept of human colonies, all of them are but this is my favourite.
I like the subtle hints of it being a different planet, those weird plants, the moons, telling you it's not earth but you otherwise wouldn't know.
The vegetation is very realistic and the tower colony road things do look as if we could make them, futuristic suspended monorail most likely.
The sea also looks realistic, and from the look of the other colonies it seems you like settlements with big water features

Amazing work, all of these deserve DD's
(PS Does the girl come with the planet too? )

More superb Sci-fi. Favourited, even if I dont like the view of the tower through the arch ( a bit too corny (IMHO)), otherwise thats the view from my beach hut, thats my girlfriend and thats the road/rail to my other stuff.

My PC is 2 or 3 years old and it's nothing special, to be honest. It's a Windows 7, CPU i7 @2.8GHz, 12GB RAM. How long have you been working with Vue? Do you have some images online that I can take a look? What specifically would you like to achieve like this image that you aren't currently able? If it's some specific technique that you lack, I may try to help.
