Description This painting was inspired by the infamous tomb of Queen Nefertari, beloved chief wife of Ramses the Great. Her tomb is exceptional in its high quality paintings. Although her tomb was plundered, the paintings that remained are a great glimpse into the vivid and highly detailed 19th Dynasty Egyptian art. The tomb has suffered much environmental deterioration, and preservation methods have been put in place to help save this beautiful treasure of human history.

Scene from the Vestibule to the Realm of Osiris. The hieroglyphs shown here are incomplete; my papyrus was too small to fit all of the original text.

Painted with acrylics on real Egyptian Papyrus. Sakura micron pens for the outlines. Many of the details had to be painted with a needle. Very time consuming. :/Β
Size: 8.5" by 11"Β

Thank you Kevin. I bought some very, very tiny brushes since I've painted this, and hope to make another papyrus painting soon.

Thank you....I am eager for you to see this in person, because the scanner's light caused a glare on the paint :S That's so frustrating when it happens.

You painted with a needle, you're freaking amazing girl!
Love the colours and how you've done the colours and all details! You've put alot of work into this, love it!

Thanks! I thought it was never going to get done. Every time I thought I was done, I saw a little area that needed more paint. Argh! But I am happy that its done, and my admiration and respect towards ancient scribes just magnified even more!

Looks amazing! It's so authentic and detail! I'm full of admiration of your work Β It was my dream to paint on real papyrus... it must be hard work.

ArtisticAdventures In reply to Anx2gie [2014-04-15 02:50:31 +0000 UTC]

Thank you kindly. Papyrus is surprisingly wonderful to work on! It accepts pencil, marker, and paint excellently. I was afraid that the acrylic would peel off, but no--it adhered beautifully. The only thing that is kind of hard is when you are trying to paint fine detail, the surface is kind of rough and ripply. But if you are just using a pen or marker then that is not an issue. I highly recommend you try it!

Thank you very much for your helpful and encouraging opinion. Now it seems easily-to-do, totally different than I expected. Some time ago I had a problem with buying sheet of papyrus in my country, because it wasn't purchasable. I will go on serching. I'd like to try it

Yes, please keep looking....try looking online. I buy my art supplies from Blick.com . That's where I get huge sheets of papyrus from. You can make many pieces of art from just one sheet!

Wow, this site is great! I've never heard about it. There is everything I could have dreamt. Firsty I thought about ebay, but this site is what I'm looking for. On Polish sites with art supplies there is no 'clear' papyrus, only painted pieces.Β Many, many thanks for Your helpΒ  Can't wait for sheets of papyrus.Β Surprisingly, it isn't expensive and there is no need to import papyrus directly from Egypt

My goodness, dear! You painted bits of that with a needle? I would of ripped my hair out by the roots and said to hell with it, but you. You gave this picture so much life and it looks so accurate to the story of Nefertari and Ramses. And seriously, if that isn't enough badassry, you painted it on real Egyptian papyrus! I've said it before, and I'll say it again: You. Are. Amazing. I am so proud of you Jen!

ArtisticAdventures In reply to Forty-Fathoms [2014-04-15 02:52:45 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much girl. I totally worked my fingers to the bone on painting this! The scanner made a glare on the paint so sadly you can't see just how detailed or bright this is. But I hope someday you'll get to see this or something similar to it in person. And let me just say the ancient scribes of Egypt deserve our full respect. Making a papyrus painting is not easy.
