Description
Among the animals of the new world is the massive king, or rather, queen, of the garter snakes, the Basilisk Garter Hydra. Named so for the “crown” atop its head and “many heads”. A beast that has smaller snakes inhabiting its mouth/gullet. A fun spin on the snake-tongues of the Graboids. All the tongues are the far smaller males w/ the single larger female carrying them. They all can function independently and can even leave the female, but all work together in a group as one for the most success. Every few weeks the males leave the female to "empty their tanks" before returning. So they don't suffocate, the female takes a breather in most literal sense as she'll open wide and give the males maximum air intake. A separate hole, very much like the one used by snakes in present day to breathe while ingesting a mouthful of food, serves as a specialized separate pouch that the males call home. One dominant male, usually the bigger of the batch, stays w/ the female where as most others come and go over time, and regularly mates w/ her each season. Can reach up to about the size of a giraffe or more when fully grown.
