Description
A planet hosting a meta-civilization of self-replicating machines. The entire surface has been industrialized, with various areas specialized towards specific task not unlike organs in complex biological organisms. A vast network of various artificial intelligences--self aware but not sapient--work in parallel to coordination drone activities and make decisions. They seem to have no real goal in mind beyond their own survival and expansion, establishing resource extraction operations in various parts of the inner solar system. Whether this planet is their point of origin or one they colonized is unknown, but a thin atmosphere composed mainly of gases common in industrial emissions implies that this was a barren planet before being technoformed. The temperature on the surface is on average in the low 100's Celsius (210's Fahrenheit), which, while hot enough to boil water, is cooler than would be expected with so much machinery and electronics on the surface, indicating that waste heat is likely distributed into vast subterranean oceans. It may be that this planet is in fact their homeworld and that the water and atmosphere of its once Earth-like surface were long ago collected and converted into an enormous cooling mechanism. A heat map seems to indicate that the waste heat is radiated out at the poles where it is distributed by air currents throughout the atmopshere, and a high amount of sulfur aerosols in the planet's stratosphere reflect most of the sunlight before it reaches the surface thus lowering the temperature even more. It is estimated that around 40% of the planet is acting as dedicated servers for the vast amounts of data produced by this meta-civilization and that its current storage capacity is 3.1 billion zettabytes (3.1*10^21 gigabytes, or around 3.1 quintillion terabytes). No attempts to communicate with the meta-civilization have been met with success but they do not express hostility towards observers who do not come within 10 light-minutes of their area of operations and actively avoid outsiders that do not approach the inner system.Related content

Huh. Is it home to a giant robot named Optimus Prime?

This deserves to be in a book/comic/show/movie/game.
