Description

okay because i don't do a whole lot of detailed internal room views, i've taken to SketchUp to help me to design layouts of buildings so i can better draw them. here's my first attempt to turn a blueprint provided by the person commissioning me into something more

i'm not sure how much i'll use the picture when it comes to doing the drawing because it somehow feels like cheating. but i guess whatever helps just get it done is good!

I KNOW THIS ISN'T THE SORTA STUFF MOST PEOPLE SIGNED UP FOR WHEN WATCHING ME! HOPEFULLY IT WILL SIMPLY ENABLE ME TO PRODUCE BETTER FAT GIRL PICS IN FUTURE! ROBOT COMMISSION OUT TODAY OR TOMORROW SO BACK TO CARTOONY STUFF SOON!

I think it's a really good idea and anything that might help you in your art, you should use to your advantage. I don't think anything would be cheating at this point. You could literally do renders from the point of view you would want to draw in the room and use it to draw the main lines of the space in your illustration. Or like, use it as the background to draw on and cover up with more details after.

yeah that's actually what i'm planning to do, honestly! i've spent a little while between commission work trying to build the room on Sketchup and i think it will really help give me the guidance to draw the lines themselves! i will still do them freehand i think but knowing exactly, mathematically where they're meant to be is of great comfort!

Yup, makes sense. It gives you a pretty accurate sente of perspective from different points of view. Helps give a sense of scale to your characters also, probably. I'd love to see sort of in progress captures of how you will proceed with that

My mum does art for a living and has always told me that the worst thing you can do to yourself as an artist is call the tools that help you get things done cheating. it just makes things harder on you =w= and hey, you still designed that building yourself! its not like you just stole a blueprint from somebody, you still made that!

yeah, that's a good point! to be honest, it still took me a few hours just to get to grips with the software and come up with that! and it was fiddly as all hell -- it was just really useful in making sure the vanishing points and perspectives and stuff were right, which is something that i find so daunting normally!
