I'm proud to announce the tutorial for my painting Cougar Intensity is now available for you. A special thanks to reneedicherri at Autodesk for allowing me to give you all a peak behind the scenes at one of my favorite paintings to date. Inside you'll find a bit about how I go about composing the image, choosing color and how I get the textures I'm looking for in my paintings.While you are at it, take a look at the Hero Challenge Sketchbook is running this month! The astounding creature designer and Paleo artist Terryl Whitlatch asks "What's your perfect pet?" Get noticed by her and enter the challenge! I think you can all guess what my perfect pet would be. After you do that, make sure you check me out at all of the regular hangouts for more of my WIP's, artwork, and general nonsense!

Well if nothing else, this comment section gave me a good laugh. I recall seeing a promotion function being added recently so I guess I just pay attention to stuff that others deem unworthy. Thanks for the laughs, but I give this tutorial only a 9/10 because it's not the kind of cougar I'm looking for!

I was confused though as to why an artist I don't recognise popped up
First thought was 'oh they obviously haven't posted in ages so I had forgotten about 'watching' you'. X3
Btw did you have control over the fact that your art was being promoted?
Because you seem to be getting a bit of grief for this and if it was out of your control blame (for those whom are outraged ) is being misplaced here.
Personally this surprise deviation doesn't bother me as when I log in on the front page I am seeing loads and loads of artists I have not 'watched' or want to 'watch'

Yeah I really had nothing to do with it. They did say that promoted art is targeted to those that might like it, ie people that look at a lot of tutorials, do tutorials, watch certain groups and stuff. I guess sometimes it misses the mark.

The issue is that (while he apparently has done this before) he's affiliated with the Promoted page on this site, and Promoted says that they send out art that they think specific DA members are interested in.
Apparently /everyone/ got this picture.

Promoted Deviations were announced to the community back in May of 2013 and we created Promoted to have a landing page to explain the feature. To clear things up for you, please know that this was not sent to everyone but rather a selection of deviants we believed would be interested in this content. We don't send out promoted deviations often and hope that when we do people find them interesting/helpful. Also, know that Premium Members can opt out of receiving Promoted messages by visiting the General section of their Settings and unchecking "Check here to receive Promoted messages."

What the hell led /anyone/ to believe that I was interested in this crap?
And yes, we know, we have to pay money to a site that (clearly) doesn't deserve it, in order to avoid this drek.
Let's see here... In May of (TWO. YEARS. AGO.) I was dealing with having my account hacked by a bully. No, I really don't have any incentive to pay to avoid this crap.
However, this development has shown me that this site has gone down hill since I joined it. I'm moving myself and my art to another site.

First of all, you guys were way off. This is a picture of a freaking COUGAR. If you look through my gallery or anywhere else on my profile, you would see that my interests do not relate to cougars in any way whatsoever. I'm glad you didn't annoy everyone with this crap, but if you're going to "promote" something to e few select people, you should at least try to do a better job at making sure that the thing you're promoting is something that the people you selected would be interested in.
Second, how come only premium members get to disable this? You're pretty much scamming people to get a premium membership just so they don't have to see your unnecessary crap. Just in case you didn't know, when you result to scamming, that when people decide to leave. Not a very good move on your part. Also, yes, I am very well aware that I have a premium membership at the moment, but I know it won't last. I cannot afford to renew my premium membership, this was actually gifted to me from a friend. So apparently, when my premium expires, I'll be forced to see promoted messages again until I pay up, which I will not be able to do. Doesn't sound like a very good deal to me. It's like something I said a long time ago,"It's almost like discrimination, the way premium members get all this extra stuff." Seeing how only premium members can disable "promoted" messages (scam is a better word), you're only proving how right I was.
Actually yes, I do have further questions. First, when will you admins start listening to people? The second half of my first year on here was nothing but bad updates that's making this website go downhill. A lot of people are complaining that this website is starting to look like Facebook, Twitter, and pretty much every other social networking site on the web. I've never been on any of those websites, but since so many people are saying it, a have no reason to not believe them. Second, what would you do if everyone decided to leave because of your closed-mindedness? You guys are starting (if you haven't been already) to act like hard-headed, stuck-up snobs, and that's the kind of attitude that drives people away. You guys are acting like followers, doing what the other social websites are doing just because it's, apparently, "cool." You guys even had the audacity to steal a logo from another website. Were's the originality? Do you people even care anymore?
I'm starting to lose faith in you, DeviantART staff, but I refuse to give up on you completely. I will pray that you will eventually see the errors of your ways and make an attempt so change for the good.

I read that, and personally turned off the crap so it doesn't show up in my inbox ever again, but honestly finding out that the DA staff has the gall to spam random people, some of whom can't block stuff because they don't have premium membership very disturbing and an invasion of my privacy, not to mention a very sick way of blackmailing users into paying money.
I plan, when my premium runs out, to basically leave this site. The fact that users are being harassed, and art is being stolen and the staff doesn't seem to care was enough to make me create accounts elsewhere, but inacting some stupid feature that OBVIOUSLY a lot of people don't want and leaving it to be used against the obvious protest of the user base of your site is just honestly the last straw. Go look through the comments on the group front page, and the page of the single journal there if you don't believe me.
I've been annoyed with many of the changes that have been forced on the userbase in the last year, but to find out that you (the staff) is invading my personal privacy as well has greatly disturbed and annoyed me. The staff here needs to actually listen to its userbase, and occasionally even compermise, like on the issue of the dissapearing webcams.
To sum everything up, the staff of this site has decided to be the last straw, and drive away someone who, in and of herself, would be happy to have contenued to pay real money for different features, had the community here not have virtually been destroyed by those who were suppose to mannage it. I hope you people are happy with yourselves.
