Description
A lightning bolt streaks down to the ground during last nights thunder storm.i always wanted to capture a lightning bolt but the means was never available to me.
Finally equipped with my trusty EOS 450D dSLR, tripod and shutter release i managed to capture this shot.
I took almost 100 shots to get this one, so i decided to make a mini time lapse film using the other images.
You can see that movie here:

here goes a Simple tutorial:
U NEED a tripod. no substitutes. cause u need to be able to point towards any location in the sky.
next u need a shutter release. simple, remote whatever does the trick.( u need to be able to lock the shutter down)
DONT shoot in BULB mode. the only thing you going to get with that is a really bright photo with multiple lighting effects on one shot.
instead i set my dSLR to continuous mode and the dial to "M" with a shutter speed of 10sec and an f/8 aperture to get a deep filed of focus.
then locking the shutter release i pointed towards the "busiest" part of the sky and started capturing. took over 100 shots to get this one.
This is my favorite cause it shows lighting striking the ground. I ahve over 20 shots of lighting in the sky almost as impressive.
Of course the weather has to be on your side. This month is the best for this kinda photography. the sky is always moody this time of year.
good luck my friend. hope to see some results of your soon!

One of the things about capturing lightning is that it does take a long time. For the three or for decent images I have in my gallery, I have about 200 scrap images. But really, when you do get that one very cool shot, it makes all the difference.
