Yes. Quatro is four. I hated that dragon. It never wanted to go where I wanted it to go, HOWEVER, I did manage to climb on it's little dangly face-dreadlocks rather than get on it's tail. Way to glitch <3

Best music? I've have the soundtrack |:B *true nerd*.
You're talking about "A Despair-filled Farewell", but I think my favourite song is the one that they play is split between two of them: one is during the very first battle, "The Opened Way", but only for the first minute. The other song that tickles my fancy is "Counterattack", which they play during a lot of the battles, but specifically when Phalanx (the flying-desert-tapeworm-dragon) is in the air. It's invigorating and makes me want to stab something large and angry.

so you jumped down at him from somewhere?

thats not the stratedgy I used. Down in the water somewhere theres three platforms standing up from the water. what I did was to swim over to those and start shooting at the bird whit the bow. when you do that, it will dive-attack you, like fly down and run you over. If your standing on the right platform and is facing him as he flyes at you, a patch of fur should be right in front of you. If you then jump and grab at the right time, you should quite easyly get on him.

You're...talking about the battle with Avion (number five). I was talking about the fight against Phaedra (number four)...

oh. I thout you where talking aboute the bird. (dont know aboute the names of any of the colossi. just theyr numbers) (the first ones anyway) cus I mentioned it. and stuff.

but as for the giant horse, climbing up those dreds is what I think your suposed to do. thats what I did. I ran down one of those stairs and when I came up the stairs on the other side, I saw he had lowered his head, looking for me in the hole I ran down. So then I ran at those dreds and started climbing.

Neh, officially, you beat number four by hiding in the tombs, waiting for him to crouch down, then coming out of a tomb on the opposite side, and climbing up his butt. :B I mean, come on, he has a ladder coming out of his ass.

hm... I have'nt actualy seen that. hmph. I just payed atention to the face dreds, thinking "I should try climbing up those" from the first moment I saw it.

But that is another thing I like aboute the game. A lot of the colossi's got more then one way of beating them. take for example the guy down in that temple whit the beard. you can run over to those pillars whit the platforms and stuff to make him bend down to look for you and then jump onto his beard, but you can also try to get on his hands. (something I found more fun)

AkitheFrivolicious In reply to ArcStone [2007-06-15 11:33:59 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, but there's only one listed 'official' way to beat them. Finding glitches and different ways to kill the colossi are convinient. For Barba (number six), the hand trick is really hard to do if you're impatient.

I think the -easiest- unofficial way to kill a colossi, would be for number twelve, Pelagia. Instead of waiting on the platforms for him to shoot at you, get swimming close to his body until you're behind him, then climb up his back and run to his head when he's not shaking his damned head. :3

is that the one in the water whit those zap-o-matic horns?

I thout that was the official way to kill him. cus you do know that you can make him change the direktion hese heading by hiting the rocks on hese head whit the sword, right?

I didn't know that there was another way to kill him.

Do tell.

AkitheFrivolicious In reply to ArcStone [2007-06-15 17:51:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah. Zap-o-matic horn hell. I hated how it took me two days to figure out what to do with him (Yes, I have beaten the game six times, and am working on finishing Time Attack Hard Mode).

And there isn't any other way to kill him. You have to make him stand up on the pedestal and grab onto his furry belly-hairs. But other than that, there are two ways to get up: the official way is to wait on those platforms and make him mad enough to jump up, then grab on his face and guide him from there. Or you could be lazy and run up the back and try not to die. : D

The only other colossus that gave me grief was number nine, Basaran, the tortoise. Because of his lack of hair and my lack of video-game patience, I actually threw my PS2 controller across the room XD;

It didn't break, but it doesn't like me anymore.

hmph...
the only time I think I came close to do that (among what I can remember) was probably when trying to get througe the third level of Kid Icarus that I reasently bought on the Wii's virtual console. (you can buy classic games on it)

In case you hav'nt tryed that game: Kid icarus is one of the games from "the glory days" of the NES. Back when games realy tested your mettle. That game is HARD in the beginning.

Back to sotc: I think one of the colossi I can remember having trouble whit, is probably that armored bull colossi you have to scare out of that cave whit a burning stick.
I didn't expeckt to be able to pick up that stick, nor did I think of doing that. So I just ignored the stick lying on the ground and kept running around hoping he would crash into a wall and get knocked out or something. whit Dormin saying: "parhaps you can use the fire pedestals" I thout he meant I was gonna trick him into crashing whit one.

I absolutely love the battle against Celosia and Cenobia (the two little ones). They're so much more fast-paced compared to the other battles, and I liked all the running, although number 11 scared me shitless. I was screaming while I was playing. :B

The second bull colossi battle I absolutaly loved. There I was all, "shit! Hese comming for me!", then I saw a pillar lying on the ground. "mabe I can climb up there" then I saw some other platforms, "hm. guess its time to play mario" and thus I did. jumping from one plat form to the other, before I knew it, he crashed into a wall, hese armor disapeared, and I jumped down at him from from abowe. It cinda felt like I was in a Jim Carrey movie or something.

See, I thought I was supposed to run down those canals, but he never chased me, so I didn't know what to do. You'd think Cenobia'd be smart enough to go down the steps XD; maybe he was too big? Then I thought I was supposed to run to those ruins, but he chased me....and I died. I'm a terrible darting/rolling person.

althouge a side effeckt of that game was (becouse of this whole "jump whit triangle" thing) that all of a sudden, I could nearly not play other games at all! this whole thing whit me useualy automaticly pressing X to jump on pure reaction when I needed to was all gone all of a sudden. Something I quickly noticed when playing ratchet and clank 3 after having played nothing but shadow of the colossus for three days. (not constantly ) took me a while to get used to jumping whit X again.

I actually go into other games and make their personal controller settings equal to those in SOTC. Makes the transition easier. I hate X as jump now. =w=.

Sigh.

I just set jump to X and horse stuff to triangle to get used to jumping whit X again.

Neeehh, I don't have a problem with the controls. Just, I can't figure out how to hang sideways off of the horse. I've tried. And tried. And I still can't do it. =w=

Though I can manage to do 7+ flips when being thrown off the cliff at the Southeastern Corner of the map XD;

ya at the ending the far end it sorta reminds me of ico ( i know same creator) maybe Shadow of the colosuss was the begining of ico?

Jerails In reply to animeavatar [2006-08-29 10:26:23 +0000 UTC]

It's all left up to interpretation. Lots of people argue that this is where ICO begins, and that *SPOILER* Mono eventually goes on to become You Know Who... *END*

Sorry, I just stumbled across your deviation and was reading the conversation -- the ideas are really interesting.

... but which 'You Know Who' are we referring to here? XD;
