Description
Approx. 8" x 5" (20.5cm x 13cm).Drawing pen and watercolours on watercolour paper.
Unhappy with background, but I was focused on completing the dragonfly, and then lost the plot with the background.

Background is where it belongs, not in competition with the dragonfly. It's a background, by golly. I think this is a lovely piece of work, as is. I love exotic insects, especially when they happen to be displaying lovely colors. ha ha .

It is nice to do, though the bumps tend to snag my pens a little!

i know what you mean. i don't know what kind of pens you use, i know fine liners are really a bitch to use on textured paper and gel pens are even worse, but what i've found is that a fountain pen is perfect. the nib is metal and so it doesn't skip on the bumps and you can press harder than you would with less heavy duty pens. you should try one out, if you haven't. you can get them super cheap disposable, and even the nicer, real ones come pretty cheap. i have one that i consider very nice that i got from amazon for $40. i have one that cost a few hundred dollars (gasp! someone gave it to me as a gift, i'd never buy something like that!) and i like the $40 one better! plus it scares me to even touch the expensive one!
